LMFAO

Imagine that the dealer just called - they reprogrammed the shift strategy using "some TSB" and it is ready to go . . . .

We shall see how it is when I pick it up . . .

I didn't see that in the app, :-/ maybe it is something they removed with the last updates. lol
Looking forward to your report on what they've done...

Says they reprogrammed the adaptive transmission and it may shift firmly for 2 or 3 days....

Really it feels like it is in tow haul mode so far...

Will update in a few days of driving.

I think Ford hopes that by reprogramming and resetting the TCU it frees up the valves enough to work properly, or maybe knocks some of the crud loose. Or hopes the adaptives will jack the line pressure up and force the valves to move properly.

Who knows.

You're a very patient man.
I'd have long ago lost my mind over this and have either changed dealerships if possible or sold/traded out of that truck.
I hope this is starting to turn around and become something good for you!

We talked about this yesterday as we drove to the dealer. We are in a place where I did not HAVE to have the truck, if it had been during the school year, or I had work that took me out of the house it would not have been managable.

This is the 5th dealer I have taken the truck to since I bought it.

The first (in florida) was the purchasing dealer that fixed the windshield leak, but managed to damage to cowl plastics on the truck which I didn't notice until I got home.

The second (in florida) was much closer to home and flat out told me they would not touch the warranty work the other dealer did. I called ford and they said I had to take it to the original dealer. I get that, I was asking them to fix what dealer 1 fucked up, but still a ford dealership should be a ford dealership.

The third (in florida) was an autonation, and has been the best to deal with to date. I took it to them for an oil change and tire rotation. I asked the service advisor if they could have a mechanic look at the windshield cowling while it was there. He said yes, and when I picked the truck up told me they looked at it and could fix it, but it would require a seperate trip and a day or so because of what was involved.

The fourth (in Colorado) I took it in for a oil change - I figured it would be easy enough. I went before I wanted to get the oil changed to scope it out, service advisors seemed competent, they recommended the quick lane service for just the change and rotate. I advised them I had aftermarket skids and would that be an issue - nope, we do that all the time they said.... Well, long story short they screwed up replacing the skid plates, they failed to install 2 bolts all together (and lost 2 speed clips). When I got home and checked it out I found this out and had to remove all the skids and replace them again.

The fifth dealer (in Colorado) is the current dealer. When I made the appointment the Service Manager is the one I spoke with and he sounded hesitant about the skid plates, so I told him I would remove them before bringing the truck in. The rest has been rehashed above . . . .

My "fear" is that within the Ford service department database the dealer hopping will be seen negatively if I need to take this transmission issue further... Having worked in Sales for years I also want to be cognisant that sometimes service workers just have bad days/weeks. a job that should take 5 minutes might end up taking 2 days. And there are sometimes factors beyond their control that are affecting me and my repair.

The service advisor seemed like a really nice guy, I almost felt bad for being a dick, but they had my >40K truck for 2 weeks and didn't contact me at all. when I spelled out in the complaint what the issue was, almost verbatim from the TSB. When I have to return, I will quote the TSB and say they need to complete the next step of inspecting and possibly replacing the valve body . . .

shrug, they did have gorgeous 2024 ranger lariat fx4 on the lot, the center stack, shifter and center console buttons looked so sexy . . . Wonder what my Ranger Tremor trade in value is . . . LOL

Wow. This makes me feel SO blessed (so far), in that I haven't had any major issues with my Ranger (so far) and that my biggest gripes are about the ineptitude of dealer service techs (so far).
But you let half as much of that stuff you've dealt with happen to me and I'm done with it.

yeah, yeah it has been.

My favorite of it all really was when the lady at Ford told me I needed to take the truck back to the OG dealer who did the work on the windshield leak to fix the cowling and I told her I am in the middle of moving across the country and she said "well, the only place that will get paid to fix it is the dealership in florida"

When it comes to my own Ranger service experience, it hasn't been the techs that have been a problem.

My problems are happening before it gets to them. My purchasing dealer is a royal PITA to get into their regular service dept. I've had no trouble at all with the quick lane service. But when I had the blend door problem as well as my most recent one, the wait to get my truck in was horrendous. At least the blend door wasn't a critical problem The most recent problem certainly was and I could not trust the truck to get me to work. No effing way was I going to wait a whole MONTH just for them to get a look and diagnose the problem.

The dealership I took it to was thankfully easier to work with to get the truck into, but their communication structure within the place was a hot mess. I never got the name of the service advisor when I dropped it off, and apparently they were having some staffing issues that made that a VERY critical piece of information I needed just to get a status on my truck. The main receptionist had no way to even look up in the computer system to tell me who my service advisor was. After my experience there, I spoke to the general manager about it and told him that the receptionist needs better tools to help people who call on the phone to check on their vehicles. He gave a line of excuses about the staffing problems they're having, including someone who is dealing with a cancer diagnosis. As a cancer survivor myself, I get it, but dropping the cancer card as an excuse isn't going to get me to forget that there's still something you could do to improve the customer service experience.

Have a care! Don't be seduced by good looks. Wait and watch to see how well the new gen Ranger performs, and how reliable it is.

I broke my own rules when I purchased the 2020 Ranger, figuring that they have been out for 5 years around the world. I was incorrect - Aussie Rangers are NOT US Rangers, at least not where it counts. They are cousins, but.... well, we all know about cousins.

If I do get fed up with Ford, I will probably trade the truck in for a Jeep that the GF will get and I will take her Outback . . .

you know, and this is anecdotal, there may be something to this. i had some work done on my ranger that had the battery disconnected a long time. seemed that the transmission was back in learning mode. "firm shifting" to say the least. between 500 and 750 miles later, it started to smooth out. after 750 miles, the transmission is a dream. my ranger was around the 65-67k mile mark when this all went down.

so your comment may hold some truth. i went from disliking my 10-speed to absolutely loving it.
