Thanks Duke! Now this is a party I don't want to miss!

? Maybe I can send Annie on a week long shopping trip?:bandit:?
The shopping trip would end up being FAR less expensive than a party with those gals...

I just closed on my house here in AZ today!

Most here know I’ve been talking about moving and we’ve made several trip out NW Arkansas over the last 2 years. After our last trip late September of '23 and not finding a house I liked (my OCD gets me every time ) I decided to switch gears and look for a lot. Long story short I found one right across the street from the largest lakes in the area and closed on it in November. I had an architect draft us a house from 2 different prints and a whole bunch of ideas I had from working in thousands of homes over the years. Then had to research and talk with several builders until I narrowed it down to two. I flew out there right before Easter to meet with them and really liked the first one so much I cancelled the second appointment. Sometimes you just get that gut feeling (no it wasn't gas ) about someone and being in the trades for 42 years I'm pretty confident I did. This will (hopefully) be our retirement dream home full of custom stuff like stepped up ceilings, custom built cabinets, upgraded windows and HVAC, a real floor to ceiling stone fireplace and spray foam insulation throughout. I'm hoping to do a metal roof but still waiting for that price to come back and not sure it's going to be in the budget.

We were going to start building late summer and I was going to put the house for sale here just after the new year. The more I thought about it with interest rates all over the place and the election coming up I decided to do it now. Annie was heading back to Chicago for her yearly mandatory meeting in mid March so I worked day/night for 3 weeks cleaning, decluttering and selling stuff and listed it on April 4th. Three days later I got a full price offer and we just closed on it today!

Now the real fun begin! The ABF freight truck comes on the 17th, loading it on the 18th and we’re out of here on the 20th. Luckily I sold almost all our stuff so it wont be to bad. Well, except for all the stuff Annie’s bought throughout our travels. ?‍♂ We've been living like refugees with everything all boxed up, bubble wrapped and scattered everywhere for weeks now. lol I found a 3/2 house 3.5 miles from where we’re building so we’ll be renting that until it’s build which will most likely be next spring.

We'll be driving the tremor out there which is about 1,200 miles and staying over in Tucumcari, New Mexico (on Rt 66) which is the half way point. I know Paul @OrangeStreak lives in NM but not sure how far from here you are and is this a decent area? I'm not sure how much time we'll have or if there's anything in/around the area to do but any info would be helpful.

Congratulations! Tucumcari is a few hours east of Albuquerque and has some neat route 66 artifacts and museums. Will be a bit warm but I'm sure you accustomed to that. Safe travels!

Thanks Brian! Nothing can be as warm as it is here unless it's the face of the sun. ? I'm hoping to get an early start out of here so we can get there an explore the area a little. Thanks again!!

Exciting news Dave! The setting sounds beautiful but you will have your share of stress with a build. Hope you find a good painter. :p
Thanks Steve! Ya know I think that's going to be one of the hardest things to give up, not painting it myself. I just can't do a whole house like that now especially alone. If I still had all my crew I would tackle it but "a man must know his limitations". :captain::bow:? I think there's more pressure on them (the builder & painter) knowing I've been doing this for 42+ years. lol

It’s all good - I talked to @Grumpaw and @Chris M about it and we’ll take care of the painting duties.

Congratulations Dave. Bud Light has many empty trucks looking for loads and maybe your friends there can get you a good deal on the move . Can't wait to see pics of the location.

Welcome to the area.
I think you'll like it here.
When I moved here which has now been for over 40 years now. It has grown a lot.
You'll have to adjust to some humidity from being in AZ.
The lake here has a lot of options.

Thanks Ed! Well those Bud Light trucks didn't deter anyone from showing up to last years party here so I think I'll pass on them this year. ?

Thanks Bill. I've been watching the area for a while now and have seen it growing. One thing I liked about BV is that it's only 15-20 minutes away from Bentonville, Rodgers and Springdale so you can escape all the traffic and crowds. Plus it can only grow a little larger due to the lots and sizes of them there. Most were plotted years ago by Cooper development and were smaller in size (under .30 acre) and now they're to small for a house and septic layout.

I'm originally from MA so I'm use to humidity and cold winters. While I don't love either the relentless 100+ temps. 5-6 months here wears you down. Once it hits (usually in late April/early May) you never get a break from it until right around Halloween. Then add the never ending sprawl of ugly brown cookie cutter houses which all look the same, rude people and endless traffic we really can't wait to get out of here.
