Poisonous? We have lots of diamondback rattlers in this high desert area which you have to watch for on hiking and biking trails...

No, "Black snake" is a bit of a generic term, which most commonly refers to this one, but can refer to the Eastern Indigo Snake or Eastern Racer as well. Given BM's location, Racer seems most likely, as it has the widest range, whereas the common black snake is mostly found much farther west of him, and the Indigo is generally more to the south.
It seems that while none of the three are venomous, they're immune to venom.

You nailed it! Eastern racer. Growing up if the snake was black and moved fast it was a Black Racer. If it just laid there or moved slow it was just a Black Snake lol.

Sad experience while out on a walk Thur. morning ?

Was passing by the bottom of an embankment and saw a doe in the distance crossing over it. Immediately on the other side of it is a wide busy Blvd. with a 50 mph speed limit. Knew that this could be trouble.

A few seconds after she was over heard a loud whack. I knew someone had nailed her with a lot of force and got a sick feeling in my stomach…offered up a quick prayer for her protection. I have a soft spot in my heart for helpless animals who are injured and suffering. Animals matter!

Quickly went over the embankment to see if I could help. She was laying in the road and appeared to be finished. No sign of the driver who did this. After a few moments she opened her eyes and amazingly got up looking dazed and somehow crossed the Blvd. without incident and disappeared into the surroundings

Contacted the Dept. of Game & Fish Conservation to report this incident. Also hoping someone on the other side would help with her rescue.

Our doing some whacking of weeds n trees today on the trails we care for.. The "smoke" in the top photo is moisture coming off the cut grass. It was lightly raining as we worked today. If you are are wondering, we only run .155 string.

Arlyn,

Just wondering what line profile works best for you. I switched to a larger gauge twisted line a number of years ago and it’s been a game-changer. Line cuts better, lasts longer, doesn’t break. Always interested in knowing what the pros use.

Used pretty much them all, found that the shape makes little to no difference. Shape is about marketing. What does help is the size. What are you using?

I’m not sure of the gauge but it’s much larger than I used to use and the twisted strands seem to give it strength. I used to snap cheaper lines a lot - even while being careful. Yep, size matters.

Looks like you are locking through some warm canal? We reside on the great lakes.
It’s the Pinopolis lock. It’s in Moncks Corner SC. You can go from the ocean through Charleston Harbor then up the Cooper River to 2 fresh water lakes.
