I'm coming up here soon needing to replace my front and rear shocks. I have a 2wd, don't need/want a lift, and I'm on pavement 99.9% of the time. I know the 4wd/off road members here recommend eibach or bilsteins but that seems a little over kill for my use.

A pre-installed spring/shock combo for the front would be a plus.

Eibach or Bilsteins. The former can be had as a coilover for a direct swap, but that will raise the front of the truck (level out some). There are more expensive Bilsteins with spring also, but again more than you might want? Shock Surplus will also install springs and top hats to the Bilstein 5100, which you could have preset at a lower, stock height. I am not sure of their price, compared to the other coilover options.

No sense in paying the extra for the Bilstein 5100's if you're not going to mess with leveling. Per Bilstein the 4600's and 5100's are valved the same.

I vote Bilstein

I did the 4600's for my 2WD XL. I went back and forth on which shocks to get. And like you, no lift and I'm also on the pavement all the time. I find that it does make a difference for that head whipping when hitting bumps or potholes, especially while turning. It's not night and day, but it seems like a gentler ride ...

It was easy, no need to do what I did, but I spent an afternoon of it and made it as easy to get to as I could. Many do it without removing the wheels.

Edit: Louisiana! I lived in Lafayette way back in the '70s and loved it! We used to go crawfishing in farmer's rice fields - good memories. =)

Why do you “need“ to replace your shocks? How many miles on your truck?

I went with the 4600 series shocks and an mostly content with them. Sometimes I wonder with how rough the roads are here if going with an offroad minded shock like rancho would be better.

4600 shocks are pretty cheap on summit racing or amazon.

Cause they're OEM most likely.

I live in the new orleans area and I call it urban off roading. So I 100% understand what you mean, that idea has crossed my mind multiple times.

I have 67k on my truck and the roads here are horrendous. The ride is starting to get pretty rough.

eibach might be a good middle ground. The Bilsteins will be stiffer than stock suspension. eibach will be a bit softer but still capable and they have a complete front kit for sale pre-assembled

I have a newer Lariat that I put Foxes on the rear and they felt much softer for the first 500 miles and they seem to stiffen up, even with 50 lbs of sand in the back. It's spring here in soCal, and just had Ford give me a full service in my driveway! He put the full 36 psi in all the tires and I feel like I'm driving with them full off concrete!!
I let the air out when I get back.

I know it's an old thread but did you do rear only??? and did it help with the ride? I went with the eibach pro truck for the rear on my FX2 on road 99.99% of the time but our roads here are TERRIBLE so might as well be off road..... anyway just hoping to make it less harsh its either that or get a new F150 - is there any benefit to changing out the rear shocks only? truck only has about 60k on it but the wife HATES riding in my truck. Im sure I just wasted $300 but worth a try I guess.

I know all about rough roads. I live in the greater New Orleans area... It's freaking ridiculous at times.

I ended up getting a good deal on a full set of the eibach pro stage 2 couple months ago. Unfortunately, I hurt my back something bad and have not been able to get them installed. So they are in the box sitting in my garage, along with the milwaukee powertools I bought.

Last year or so, I got rear set of Rough Country's from a member here and it made the ride much better. I went back to stock because the RC were making squeeking sounds.

thanks, hope you get back up and around soon! - I ordered the rear pro truck rear only from stage 3 hopefully that will improve it -- either Im getting old or the ride has gotten worse over the last year or so. its better (less harsh / bouncy) when I pull my boat but cant do that all the time - hope you get feeling better and get yours taken care of soon!
