Washington state has still not gotten with the program and realized it is spring yet. However, it decided that it would stop raining and hit 57°F about 645PM. Therefore I did a quickie 3WV on it. (Wash, Wheels, Windows and Vacuum)

Washed(wasted time) it, only a basic hose down cause it gets covered in cement dust at work anyway.

But since its spring, did some 303 applications.

The sun was shining so I grabbed my cleaning totes and nosed the truck out of the driveway to clean the interior. It was a much-needed, and often-delayed task but it felt good to get after it and get it done. The 20V DeWALT hand vac was great to work with - powerful enough to get everything and compact enough to set it anyepwhere in the cab where I was cleaning. ?

A good exterior wash and some Duke’s 404 (it’s 101 times better than 303 ;)) is planned in the coming days.

I posted this in the Stolen tail light thread also

I not a fan of the anti-theft screw method for tail light/tailgate security, but I really like OC4095's simple but brilliant tail light/tailgate theft deterrent, and in my usual fashion of over-thinking things, I built on his idea and came up with this 18ga plate that sandwiches between the tailgate handle and the lock mechanism. It spans the entire length of the tailgate handle. I don't know how OC4095 attached his, I thought about simply epoxying It to the inside of the tailgate skin, but I'm a big fan of mechanical fasteners so it's secured with the 2 torx screws that hold the lock mechanism & the handle together. It looks like hell, but It's a prototype that's seen a bit of massaging to work around the Huracan storage box I've got. An unmodified tailgate would use a simpler flat plate.

I did remove the locking dog from the key cylinder as OC4095 did with his. I had to file the underside of the lever arm that the handle actuates so it wouldn't rub on the blocking plate, and form (read 'hammer') part of the plate to clear the arm as well. Thinner metal could have been used but I wanted it to be stout, thyough it doesn't have to be 18ga.

I am really surprised no one has marketed this idea (as far as I know) but it would surely be adaptable to many makes of trucks/SUVs with similar lock mechanisms. SInce OC4095 put his idea on display, I'll do the same. If anybody wants a dxf or step file of this I'll be more than happy to post a link to download it from my Google Drive.

EDIT: Updated the drawings to reflect final mods for the unmodified tailgate version of my 'Gate-Plate'.

Today I tackled the PPE Deep Transmission Pan install and transmission filter change. I did not have a hose to siphon the old fluid out of the Fitz transmission dipstick, so I had to loosen the rear pan bolts and let it drain out. I was able to get 9 qts of transmission fluid to drain out on its own. It could’ve been a little more as some did drip to the floor. I let it all drain into a 20qt. plastic pan and siphon some into an empty 5qt. oil jug. As you can see in the photos, the level at 5qts. in the pan, and just a hair under 4qts. in the jug. Not exact science, but the best I could do. You can see the little bit of metal particles after wiping down the magnet in the stock pan and old filter.

I’ve used it for other things and I’m quite impressed by how well it works for its size. I expected it to drain batteries quickly but that’s not the case. The filter cleans up easily too. It is definitely handy and I’m glad I bought it.

Great post Joel. It’s so cool when a member takes on a project and documents it so well because they know they’re going to post about it. Super helpful to those who will follow this path. Nicely done.

I appreciate that ?. I know sometimes a few visual references is all you need to help push you to do the job yourself. I myself used a few YouTube videos as reference. The more we document, the more we help others who want to tackle the same job.

I put a "stubby" antenna on my 2019 Ranger Lariat this afternoon. Got it from Builtright Industries, item #110027. Lower profile and looks really good (I think). I'll get a picture of it probably tomorrow.

Won't stop people from pouring water in there, but should minimize dust intrusion.

I work next to a concrete mixing plant, so my truck gets covered in dust by waves of dust that blows by... Dust gets everywhere even if I keep my windows closed

That looks good. Looking on the website and seeing all the blue canopies I'm disappointed that the only options listed wire charcoal and buckskin. I would love to see that design add a option to replace the tailgate and rear hatch with a panel having a full height door, would be a great mobile office then.
