This evening's news reported that auto manufacturers are capturing owner/driver data and communicating it to the manufacturers, who then sell the data to insurance companies, DMV and law enforcement and resulting in higher insurance premiums. My own insurance rates (Progressive) went up, and I am a conservative driver. I researched it and predominantly it was General Motors that was mentioned, using OnStar to communicate the data. Then I found a link to the Bronco forum (link below) where it is discussed that FordPass also collects data. It's in the fine print of the Sync3 contract (your agreement to terms makes it valid) but also tells you how to opt out. Anybody know anything about FordPass collecting info? I suspect that it would have come in on one of the last few Sync3 upgrades.

Should come as a surprise to no one. Everything you do is being tracked, monitored, and sold. We'll likely never get back up that particuar slippery slope unless WWIII and the demise of everything electronic happens.

Fordpass tells me where my truck is, I assume that info comes via Ford. So Ford must always know where my truck is driving. Not sure what value that would be to law enforcement, not relevant to them. The trucks have an accident recorder mentioned in the operator's manual that law enforcement can download.

Uhh, tracking stolen cars? Searching for missing persons? Searching for a suspect in a crime?

All kinds of reasons LE might be looking for a vehicle.

Although, less and less you rely on the manufacturers and more on FLOCK cameras, which are a whole other can of worms. Very much useful for good purposes, but also very much big brother.

Saw that too. I looked in the setting, there is an option to share truck status with local dealers for service. Always wondered why they were calling me. Turned that off.

When I unplugged my modem and pulled my telematics fuse it was all "oh look at Mr. Tinfoil hat man". I get proven right again.

I hate those things. The surveillance state of Britain is the near future of the US. Funny thing is for now Flock gets used primarily in rich neighborhoods to safeguard working and retired elites, places like McLean and Georgetown, instead of crime ridden areas to actually combat the violence. I bet you'd come up on their system just for having out of state (or maybe out of town) plates.

Don't get upset, but Ranger 5G is tracking you and selling your info to advertisers. That's how many forums survive the high cost of operating and administration. Nothing is free in this world ?. Ford is nothing compared to Facebook selling your soul to the devil.

The uncatchable "blacked out Charger" in AR seems to have figured out how to defeat the trackers...

I just assume everything tracks me at this point. I make myself feel better by continuously denying my insurance tracking app.
Me too, I get up to a 30% discount on my truck insurance at the risk of being tracked... :frown:

The way I drive, I should go for that discount...except their dongle would take up my OBD2 tap...

My insurance app is just that, an app. No dongle. Damn thing can tell when I am driving and when I am a passenger.
