I bought a bed extender that allows me to transport long dimensional lumber. Purchased from Amazon for $60 shipped to my door. I can't believe how well made this is for $60. I understand its chinese kid slave labor making it but even so. Welds look good, powder coated, etc. I couldn't come close to this price if I had to buy the materials and make it DIY.

Live Free or Die?!?

Not too much is free but since we don't take Federal money for our highways, we don't have to wear seat-belts (or helmets). I'm glad I have the freedom to be violently ejected through my windshield ...

A good thing about Soupie being such a base model, at least this is a little less than it could have been for the Lariat-oh-my-tender-butt-can't-get-cold edition! =p

They get us one way or another. Here in Vermont what used to cost $36 is now $91 and then there is the 6% sales tax when you purchase.

Ahhhhhh, yes !!!! Fly thru the windshield, which will then rip your face up like it has been clawed. If your lucky, you may die....BUT, if you live, you'll be able to see everything around you, as your mom/wife/nursing home tech changes your diaper daily, and comes in every hour to wipe the drool that has accumulated on your chin.
YEA....no seatbelts !!!

exactly.

freedumbs are amazing. aren't they.

to be clear, I think not wearing a safety equipment that will increase your chances of survival is dumb. Also, I think wearing just a helmet on a motorcycle is dumb - every other bone in your body might be broken and destroyed, but at least your melon will be in good shape.

As a former motorcycle rider, just riding is the risk. Nothing you wear is going to protect your bones. Also, DOT certification for a helmet is 13.3 mph. I'm 5'9'' and, if I trip and fall, my head is going faster than that. Everything has risk, its all about the amount of risk you are willing to accept.

Early on when seat belts first came out, people suffered from severe spinal injuries (paralysis from snapped spinal cords at the waist) and severe abdominal injuries when wearing safety belts.

The came shoulder belts, and other different severe internal injuries ( search on Seatbelt Syndrome).

All this stated, since the introduction of the 3 point harness, the accident death rate dropped by 50%.

I still think wearing seat belts or helmets should not be mandatory. People make poor choices every day that have greater risk. You can not legislate morality or intelligence. Attempting to do so needlessly restricts the freedoms of everyone.

People snort cocaine and drown in their bath tubs all the time.

The latest incident 3 guys die watching the Superbowl in KC. The 4th guy got the wake up call and voluntarily checked himself into a drug rehab center. What they did was illegal, and they still did it. And the 4th wasn't charged with anything. But drive without that seat belt and you are gonna be stopped, lectured, and fined.

How many of us witness drivers distracted with cell phones, weaving all over the road. Very very dangerous. But very few get a ticket for that stupid behavior. I have seen them blow through red lights and hit stopped traffic without even tapping the brakes.

Within 2 miles of my house people have put up 8' high berms in their front yards to keep drivers from crashing into their homes. And at each location their have multiple been large yellow signs with arrows and ripple bumps in the road in an attempt to get the "phone zombies" to pay attention! It hasn't worked, so the homeowners went the berm route (which has worked!).

Yup, people should make their own choices, even if they are stupid ones...
For a 10 year period, I was a traffic homicide detective, and an accident re-constructionist....basically I handled traffic accidents that resulted in fatalities and critical injuries.
The vast majority of fatalities and injuries that were critical/life threatening were from not wearing seatbelts...people thrown around in an overturning vehicle, ejected from the vehicle, head slamming into windshield/side pillar/steering wheel, ect. I testified in criminal court, and numerous times in civil court concerning injuries/deaths resulting from not wearing seat belts. Many cases where it was proven that a seat belt would have prevented injury/death, the insurance companies only paid a fraction of the costs involved.
Make your own choice, but if the worst happens, be aware that after a few years, even your closest relatives will get tired of caring for you, and without any expensive long term insurance, you end up in a third rate nursing home where they change your bed sheets every other week, and empty the piss/poop bags once a day, for years n years......you'll wish you were dead.
It happens, I've seen it....tis true.
Steeping down from the soap box now....
Back to getting bed extenders in the mail.......

I get what you are saying... I lectured my sister for years about the evils of Diet Soda. She is 14 months my elder. 10 years ago she was diagnosed with Alzheimer disease. I warned her off Diet Soda again, and gave her options to stem and even reverse the symptoms. She refused. The last 5 years were hell for her. She just died 6 months ago. Hastened by poor in house care by a guardian who wanted her gone before her funds ran out to enrich himself. I tried to take care of her, but her legal guardian would not relent. It broke my heart.

You make your choices and live with the consequences. We all go away in the end. Johnny Cash's last song - Hurt
