this will take a while to trickle down. but look at the teething problems Chevy is having with the blazer EV. Also Volvo has been using it in their cars for a while now
I think the teething problems may have already started…

Doesn’t this car have an 8-spd transmission?

I saw that, I've been hearing vague info about it for over a year or so saying that they were introducing an AA system, and it would be much better than any of the previous systems they've had. Now, if only they would offer updated APIM, to add that to cars that had Sync3, but are no longer sold in the US, we have little reason to replace the Ford car with another Ford when there is no Ford brand equal anymore, but would love some supported updates. Really, that could be a Ford brand retention program, updates for the car lines they cancel so those owners OK with keeping the Ford they have longer rather than switching to a different brand when. I know the infotainment system can't address issues like interior feeling dated and such, but for us nerds, it can go a long way, that feeling of ongoing support for a car also can bring intense brand loyalty as many owners are put off by brands dropping everything with the previous models and a new one comes out, but in the case of nearly every car from Ford, no new one came, production on the old one just stopped for our market.

Yea, and your Ranger has a 10-spd and shows similar indicators (S where the L is there). 8-spd automatic.

I was expecting it to have an S as shown in the 2018-2024 Owner’s Manual.

Well, it's not a sports car, so S likely didn't fit the image they were doing for in the Lincoln. Now if Lincoln brought out an updated LSC based on the modern Mustang platform, I would expect to see an S there.

wonder if the S mode is a software change like it is in the raptor . . . and the D literally means drive mode . . . because you are literally driving in that selection . . .

and the L is for the boomers who put it into "low" gear when they get stuck. . . right @DukeCanBuildit

I may or may not get a bit nostalgic at the sight of this…

I remember having PRND21, then overdrive stared getting more common and you saw PRN(O/D)D[1|2|L]

But with just about any modern auto, the indicator just shows you the intent you communicated with the computer that will control the transmission and even the engine. More like a drive mode selection than a gear selection these days.

I can't remember if it was my f150 or 1st Gen taco that had a literal o/d button on the column.... That taco was nearly indestructible. ? I beat the crap out of that Toyota 5 speed and it never stumbled.

How appropriate!

“It's got eight cylinders; uses them all.
It's got overdrive, just won't stall”

“So I thought I'd make the Lincoln unwind.
Took my foot off the gas and man alive,

I shoved it on down into overdrive.”

I'm on my 4th AIPM, the SYNC in my truck is so bad I have to reboot it every time I drive it, it wont update, it's really malfunctioning, going in next week to the dealer!
