Tremors and high octane fuel

I've always put the cheapest gas brand available in my cars and have done so for as long as I've been driving, used to mostly run premium in my Saabs as the difference in engine responsiveness was far greater than that I can discern in the Ranger, but using premium in the both the Saabs and the Ranger typically provides a increase in mpgs, albeit small. I did experience some degradation of engine smoothness once in the past year that I could only attribute to buying crappy gas.

Yeah but I had 0.001% more chromium in my 3rd oil sample I sent to the lab since I got the truck 750 miles ago. This could be a sign that I need to change my oil every 500 miles, instead of 5,000 per the internet and certainly before the 10,000 in the manual. ?

People are odd. I knew a guy who kept every car he owned washed and waxed and looking new inside out….. but would NEVER change oil in one. He would drive them until they started smoking and trade them.

I'll avoid getting into the nitty gritty, but I figured I'd add my experience. I've mentioned this in a couple of MPG threads. Out of curiosity, I ran 93 when the price was right. Nothing noticeable for the first tank, but I was getting results by the first quarter of used fuel in the second tank. More responsive throttle and an improved efficiency of 2 mpg. But I think it is important that my typical drive is much different than many others'. Most of my truck's use is for work travel 2-5 hours away, using county roads and highways and rarely exceed 70 mph. Most of the trip is between 55-65 mph, and slowing down to 35 in small rural towns. Truck was stock Tremor with Velossatech Big Mouth, MBRP exhaust, and a soft Truxedo tonneau.

I use all 87. Only 92 or better when Towing for more than one tank of gas. Because the manual recommends it, because of pinging and science stuff. Its a truck. Not my wifes car that we baby, wash and wax, keep out of the fields, dont take on hunting trails, and dont do work with.

But hey! Lots of people use trucks like cars nowadays ?

I don't expect better performance or better mpg, I do expect more stable gas (premium lasts longer than standard as far as sitting around in a tank).

A few more dump runs should take care of that unburned fuel issue you might be experiencing.

I use mid-grade for everyday driving, but only premium when towing.
I have noticed a huge difference in performance when towing our heavy (7000 lb) trailer, the most noticeable when starting from a stop. Even with mid-grade Truck would "stumble" a bit from a stop, and accelerating to speed. With premium, no hesitation or stumble.
I think the only time I used regular was when I burned thru the "freebie" full tank that was in Truck when I bought it and left the dealership.

You got a tank of gas when you bought your truck? I think I got mine and it had 1/8 of a tank.

I bet that cheap gas is what caused the water intrusion by the windshield and the misaligned front bumper.

Luckily, Truck has never suffered those maladies. But I did notice that the first time I opened the tailgate, it slammed down, but the addition of mid-grade, and a damper cured it.
I think Truck was built on a Wednesday, after lunch break, when all the worker bee's were happy cause I have not had one problem with Truck.

Hmmm, my credit card statement started to get mysteriously higher with 93 octane, and my back pocket became looser where I carry my wallet. How can this be? Could the high octane vapors be making my pants stretch? Is the electronic engine timing advancement with premium fuel somehow manipulating my credit card statement via AI? I'm definitely going back to 87 octane. (These are the kinds of answers we're seeing to a simple question) ?

Ok, this thread should now be closed. This is one of the most toxic topics in online vehicle forums. You can't go wrong with 87, but use 93 if you want to inflate the oil industry's bottom line. Like I said, I do, but I also have an EV to offset the costs.
