Mike got it installed today and it went in like it was meant to be there. Thanks for a great product. Was even able to suck fluid back out of the tube since I was about a 1/2 qt. high.

I’d like to get one of the updated sticks if possible. Just let me know how I can cover shipping costs. Thanks!

Ha, way ahead of you, I plan on giving them to the first batch customers who want them, I do not want customers who wished they had waited to buy one, so I will offer the part as a product update, customer pays shipping only.

I have the length documented on a lot the sticks, but not all sticks, so the customer would have to measure it, then I can set the length and ship it.

I will be ordering more, but I'm not sure I want to give up any of the 300 I just got for updates, I might, I will see what the order time is.

So I have to ask... Why not position the hole at the full level between 4 and 5? It certainly would make seeing the fluid level easier.

Fitz, Wouldn't this be an improvement?

Do your sticks come with the present hole, or do you add it?

I may drill a hole in my dipstick at the full mark. Then there is no guessing the fluid level with my old eyes!

Read my level at 200F today with the new stick and it's right at 4.5! YES!

I would prefer to be able to just put up a link, this whole list thing is bonkers, it is hit or miss, I send out PM's and some respond, some don't, so I wait a few days, if no response, I move on down the list.
Paranoia just kicked in. :surprised:

Frantically checking PM's....

The holes come pre-punched, I set my scale around them.

If I move it down the .313" then the top diamond starts to get close to the stick twist which makes laser marking more difficult plus I would have to get a different length stick.

Let me know when you go to drill a hole in it, I tried, I'll send you the TiAIN Cobalt bits, ($18.00 each) the sticks are are hard AF, TiAIN carbide drill bits are only good for a few holes and regular Cobalt wont even drill a hole in them, they just burn up, holes like that are punched not drilled.

You should try the new stick before before you drill a hole, it might be fine.

It never fails, you try to do your best on a upgrade and someone points out how you should have done it differently  That's okay, I will file it away for possible future updates.

I never look at anything as criticism, it's just a potential opportunity to improve. (unless it's from my wife!)

Mike, they way I view it, anything we do can ALWAYS be better - there is ALWAYS room for improvement. Nothing is ever perfect. But I have to say your "Gen 1" dipstick is about as perfect as they come. I am still amazed at your attention to detail and strive for perfection and absolutely LOVE my FitzStick!

I've gotten three really, really good upgrades for my truck from forum members - I would argue that what they produced was better than any current 3rd party manufacturer could/would have produced:
I appreciate all the time, money and work that went into all 3 of these items - I love them all!

When I worked for Honda it was 'Kaizen' it follows the philosophy of constant improvement, it does work, every single design is reviewed and looked at like it can be made better somehow.

Thank you very much, I'm glad to be a contributor here, this place created this dipstick project, it may have been my work, but it was the motivation by everyone here that made the difference between me making 1-2 or a whole lot more?

I'm glad you like the dipstick, wait until you get the updated one, you will like it even more!

Fitz,

I am NOT complaining. I like everything you have done. And I knew you had a good reason for your design and manufacturing decisions. I just didn't know why.

What I suggested I call "Polishing the stone". I am quite happy with the stick. I was only exploring making it better. It is simply a suggestion.

The stick is worth every penny I paid for it, and I am grateful you took this up.

This is a perfect example of the 80/20 rule. You can achieve 80% of the desired result for 20% of the cost. But that last 20% gain of function becomes increasingly expensive as you approach the 100% goal.

Honestly, I would have been happy having to mark the stick myself. So you exceeded (by far) my expectations. I bought a B&M Stick and it now hangs in my garage! That tells you how badly I wanted a solution.

B&M stopped at about the 70% mark of what I consider important and still had a higher price point than you. Their solution would get me out from under the truck, but was not optimized for the Ranger. Lots of drawbacks.

You went well beyond the 80% mark right up to about 98%-99%. Far more than any of us would even attempt. I am still quite happy with the result, and have absolutely no misgivings about the purchase. It works and it works well.

Your new competition (Rhino?) is at the 80% mark, and his price reflects it. His product is not preformed, is not calibrated and marked, and uses a narrower tube. (There may well be other differences that I am unaware of.)

Fitz, You did good! (and I am absolutely not throwing rocks at you!)

Hey, I'm good, I would rather have the input, I have made changes based on the input I get from the members here, it really helps when you have more eyes on it because everybody sees things differently.

I was just doing the "Murhpys Law" thing, great idea.... but too late, ha! I wasn't planning on any further revisions on the stick, depends upon the feedback from the updated one.

Although I did get the "IDLING" in on this version.

There's much more going on than just a "price point". Prior to your "stick" the only alternative was the B&M, which was nothing more than a generic measuring tool ment for various Ford's using the same type of OE filler stick.
Your knowledge, of how to create a product that does everything Ford should have done is a reflection of just how creative you are.
Yeah, little changes and tweaks can always be made to a "first run" of a new product, but what you have made, not just for yourself, but for numerous members and future buyers is 95 to 99% already there.
Many of us, myself included, could only wish we had your ability to take an idea and follow it thru to fulfilment. :like:

The new stick is much easier to read...I don't see the holes serving any purpose since I'm gauging the level by the number markings...
