Oil paranoia question 🤣

My OCD won’t let me go past 3K, maybe 4 tops of I’m on a long road trip and that was with any previous car I owned.
Heck, my current oil change has only 650 miles on it and I’m already planning the next oil change.

Exactly like me, very scary to think there is someone that thinks about oil like me.

I was told that once you use a particular brand of oil for 3 consecutive oil changes you cannot change to a different brand without damaging the engine. This is because a specific oil the engine will conform to in certain areas like piston rings and headgaskets and upsetting that will cause either blowby in the gaskets or rings (thinner oil) or increased pressure on those parts (thicker oil). This is with the same weight oil btw as the difference is in the microweight properties of oil that is specific to the manufacturer. This was told to me by a reputable imaginary engineer who I have never met.

I just changed from Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w30 to Castrol Edge Extended Performance 5w30 as it has all the Ford certifications. I've used Castrol 0w40 European in all my vehicles but I wanted to have the proper Ford certs in this vehicle for warranty purposes.

I know its over kill but I just changed my oil at 2500 miles in 10 months as my oil life said 20% or so. I change my own oil so I try to buy one of the best quality oils. I find it pretty easy to change the oil and being retired its easy to pick a good day, and yes I use the Motorcraft FL-910s filter.

And yes I will change again under 4k miles because I can!!!

Ya I know...but that's become such a meme that it's synonymous with having a Ranger lol...I don't have that issue either thank God...when they ran the my Ranger down the line, they gave it the f'd up trans...the one after that, oil in gas...the next one, give that sucker the air duct mixer snafu...

Maybe unpopular but I always look at amsoil as the equivalent of holistic health based mlm. I don’t think your ranger will care as long as at minimum meets the specs whether that’s motor craft or something much more expensive.

There is a phenomenon with people. Some think that the since the price is higher, it must be a better product. Happens in all areas of commerce.

you do not want to use anything other than recommended oil. There is a reason they use this very thin or low viscous oil. And it has to do with much higher tollerances within motor and turbo.

I dont have any of the normal issues with my 21, I got it 7 months ago with 13k on it, I just turned 20K and use Amsoil oil and filter (and gas treatment) because how bad could it be? I abuse the shit out of my truck, my Explorer still ran great at almost 300k getting 22mpg I ran Mobile 1 and Fram ultra in it, and it never burnt a drop of oil, since I had such good luck with it I would have just kept using it but friend talked me into Amsoil, I am sure its all hype and mind F*** BullS*** but it at least has to be as good as mobile 1 right?
my lawnmowers still get Mobile 1 because a $175 F***ING oil change is BULL**** in it self ....

That isn't conspiracy, it happens. Grandmother had a '78 Granada with Granada badge on one side and Monarch (Mercury version) on the other. We weren't sure if it was a Monada or Granarch.

as an electrical design engineer everyone wants to think they can improve what may have taken years to design and test! and no matter what its not going to work or long term preform the way I spec-ed it to
the turbo for sure is one area I dont want to play games with

Doesn't matter which oil you use...it all gets diluted by gas anyway...

My Ranger got the lucky prize HVFP when new.

It must have been close to yours on the assembly line ?

I had an extra quart and a half of oil at 4200 or so miles.

Dealer replaced the HVFP and during my last oil change at 25k (5k oil changes) I drained a little over 6 quarts, just what I put in. Hallelujah!

I wouldnt worry about the oil thing too much. as long as its the correct oil for the truck and meets the specs it will be fine.
