Since some of y’all made a similar choice I’d love to hear your feedback on why you choose what cap you choose.

Since the prices seem to be “close” when configured similarly just trying to understand pros bs cons. Both with have stupid lead times. I’d get both with wing side windows. I’d get both with roof rack rails.
Thanks for your time.

I got the Smartcap about 20 months ago because I wanted something that I didn’t have to worry about (steel vs fiberglass.) I’m in Alaska so the winters here are rough and the idea of more paint and dings to worry about, has never been an issue with the Smartcap.
I also love that it is magnetic. I have hooks all over in the back with a net holding additional storage and out of the way. I haven’t purchased the rack for the top as I don’t need it right now but I plan on buying the storage for one of the sides.
Also, I love the black look with my blue Ranger with all black accessories.

I have the RSI! I wanted something durable (dealt with too many cracked fiberglass ones) and it had all the right features (gullwings, window port for the dog, pressure vent, many bin options that I’m too broke to buy). I didn’t realize it is also magnetic until later- I hang all kinds of hooks and a cargo net from the ceiling with strong magnets. I also like the looks and receive compliments all the time! Even from Taco guys!!!
The only thin I really want is the ability to remote unlock it… 6 locks is a lot to deal with!

Looks great Ray - the beauty of Hawaii is that those three pictures could easily have been taken during the same morning drive.

They have a video about it. It looks like some car washes might be to high pressure at the right angle for it. On my next truck I would like to get one but I wonder how the vent does with freeze thaw cycles multiple times throughout the day when there is snow on the cap.

Yes! Certainly can… are you familiar with the islands? To get to the snow, I need to drive down the volcano (Kilauea), to the sea (Hilo), and onto another mountain (Mauna Kea). ? It’s not that different than my daily commute….

A little - when I was much younger, I made it to Oahu three times and to Maui twice. The trips to Oahu were strictly mountain biking/camping trips, staying at various beach parks around the island. Best camping spot ever…

I took a mountain bike to Maui but stayed in a vacation rental each time. It’s there that I learned first-hand just how cold it can be in Hawaii. I made the long, tough climb to the top of Haleakala from sea level by bike to watch the sunrise over the crater, starting in riding shorts and a jersey, adding layers of winter cycling clothes as I got higher. So cold and so windy at the top! No snow but it felt like it could start any minute.

Saw this group that shuttles up in a van and rides down the mountain.

I met nothing but great folks on all my visits there.

@bgtruck

We're obviously partial to the Smartcap and have had a great experience with ours for a year plus now. Most are in stock and ready to ship.

If there's anything we can do or help with, don't hesistate to reach out.
