Hood to Door wire routing into cab. Im doing it wrong.

Can anyone who routed wiring along the drivers side of the hood through the door vs through a grommet in the firewall share how they did it? I went along the little channel in the hood that comes out to the door and then passed under the weather stripping. after it rained i noticed a puddle in my husky floor liners. I just have 2 wires to route into the cab, my trigger 6 and gmrs antenna.

I have antenna cables coming the same way... but I think you're diagonal lead in is what's drawing rain water inside...

I crossed into the cab as high as possible (above the first fender bolt) and horizontally...look in my build link (below) for pics...

Looks like some pretty heavy wire impacting the door weather strip / seal. I would not bring in wiring that way.

I know its not your question, but can I ask why you don't just buy a $8 wire pass through tool and do it the proper way?

Alternatively there is also an unused grommet under the driver side floor board underneath the truck you can pass wires up through, under the carpet and up into the footwell area.

I think thats the answer I may have been looking for. Do it right, or do it twice.

It's fine...the reason I brought my antenna cables in the same way is because I didn't want to cut the factory connectors which is too big to fit through grommets...

thank you for sharing this. I was digging through your build and couldn't find a picture, this is helpful

I've got all of my light and two thick antenna wires going through the grommet in the firewall on the passenger side. There are many benifits of doing it this way:

• It's much cleaner
• There is no risk of water intrusion
• It can handle the thickness of the cables
• There is no cutting anything related to the stock harness in the truck
• There is no risk of pinching the cables

I bought a really inexpensive wire pull tool from Amazon, poked it through the grommet, fed all of my wires through it, and then retracted it. I have all of this crap on the front of my truck run through the passenger side grommet (but not the winch ).
