I dropped the spare to check the air pressure, lubed the mechanism, flipped the tire and cranked it back up.
Checked my fluids.
Just had The Works done a little over 1k ago.
Checked the battery took two measurements, one showed 506 CCA and 5.03mOhm IR, the second showed 822 CCA and 3.10mOhm IR. (very sensitive to clamp connection). Bringing tester with me.
Then I removed the rear headrests, wanted more highway visibility. They stored nicely behind the rear back rest.
I took the Ranger to Ohio a couple of months after I first bought it, but with over 36k on it I thought I'd check stuff before I commit to an 8-9 hour drive. I know, that's nothing.

Right there with you. Pretty normal prep to me. I'm pretty anal about that stuff. Heading out Saturday starting vacation. (No work for a week!) Will be a week of about 1500 miles round trip. Thursday evening... Fluids, tire pressure, clean windows and apply fresh RainX, put compressor in truck, add a few tools.... and run by O'Reillys to grab a new plug kit.

Safe travels on your drive! Watch out for all the idiots. Enjoy.

Where about in Ohio ?
I grew up in Akron, moved to West Virginia in 91 for work.
Date a girl back across the river in Athens.

What’s the process for lubing the spare tire mechanism ? Something most never think about

this is a good reminder. I'm about to do a ~4000mi trip in a few weeks and while I was already planning to have a works service done in the next week or two, this is a good reminder to check the pressure in my spare.

Nice job with the prep! I just completed a 1400 mile round trip pulling my boat. I went a little excessive in prep to most people. Brought 2 spares for the trailer, 2 bottle jacks, cordless impact, wheel chokes, plus a ton of other stuff and went over everything on the truck and trailer. Had zero issues on the trip. Failing to plan is planning to fail. No one has ever been to prepared when it hits the fan lol.

...as long as you checked the damper it's all good. ?
We did...every time we stopped to get the luggage out...I swear this thing must have at least 200K mile life...I open the tailgate on average 2-3 times a day...
