If you don't have an extended warranty and want to keep your truck maybe start putting aside $ for a transmission. Or the heating/cooling blend door.. LED headlights/taillights...
So everything important right?

Any members out here with high miles / original transmission? That should be a thread for morale.
Aside for deranged enthusiasts very few are logging online to post about their great experiences. They are just living their life. We are not getting a representative sample here.

at some point in the next decade 5g rangers will be selling used with 60 to 120 thousand miles and folks will be saying things like, "yep, that der ranger is good ole truck as long as you rebuild the transmission and swap out the blend door, flash the transmission programming once a month and keep a back up EGR assembly around and add a second battery."

This axe is my grandfather’s axe. Quite a tool. they don’t make ‘em like they used to. Only replaced the handle twice and the head once.

Just an update. Just left the dealer. They think that since I was up to date on my services (majors all done by ford) that I may qualify for up to 3k of the cost but they want to do full diagnostics before they say. Fingers crossed.
Appreciate all the support. Luckily my dad was in Reno and able to tow me home with his Tahoe (which I call a mini van) and a U-Haul. I’m never going to hear the end of this ?‍♂

I believe there are several. Meanwhile, there is at least one Ford shill on this forum who says those of us with tranny troubles are just a bunch of whiners. For that person I hope that his continues to work because it stops being funny when it starts being you.
No shill here, but there are literally millions of 10R80 out there since 2017.
If it was as big a problem as the hypochondriacs think it is, it would make front page news and be on all news stations. By hypochondriacs I mean there are some owners going into panic mode because they 'might' have a problem in the future.

Now I'm not saying that I don't believe you or others when they say they are experiencing trans issues. I'm just saying that it's not as widespread as some believe it to be.

There was also posted by one Youtuber that blew his differential, now some are wondering if they have a bad differential and are contemplating trading in for something with unknown issues.

I don't remember anyone on here complaining because their truck might leave them stranded. I do, however, remember reading a depressing number of posts detailing how their trucks actually had. How widespread this may or may not be is irrelevant; be it one example or ten thousand, a faulty design is a faulty design. If anyone remembers the epic disaster that was the Saturn VTI, that object lesson in how not to treat your customers began in exactly the same way. Apparently, Ford's heirarchy was out doing trust falls and giving each other internal awards instead of paying attention.

One thing to note, is that statistical significance, and target failure rates are beyond gut feelings, hunches and general dark thoughts. Facts simply be facts.
When you're the statistical number value being tabulated, it may seem through tunnel vision that everyone around you has the same problem, or will have the same problem, and it makes sense to surround yourself with others that share the same grief, sometimes grasping at any link that may help group others into the same pea in a pod.
I have perused the trans failure thread, and it comes across as a weather forecast that literally noted every possibility out there. Its too hard for me, as a general layman, to deduce a specific failure of this trans and label it poorly designed. Its not great, but lately nothings been great.
In the big picture, the numbers will show something vastly different. Hard pill to swallow when you're the one who lost the game of duck duck goose.
I am sure the Ford Auto Trans Team (FATT for short) is working in the background looking for solutions to problems that literally look like splatter on the whiteboard trying to make links to the multitude of question marks that are popping up. Good luck to them.
