About two months ago, I used the Amazon basics sound deadening on all four doors and behind the rear seat. Threw some egg carton foam behind the speakers too. This made a pretty big difference in speaker sound quality. Maybe only a semi-noticeable difference in road noise reduction.

Well, this weekend, I finally got around to covering the roof in the sound deadening material, and all I can say is WOW! What a huge difference, I feel like I’m stepping into a quiet room when I get in the Ranger now. Outside noise is reduced in all situations from parked to cruising on the highway. Speaker quality is also significantly improved.

TLDR: the Rangers roof is a giant tin can and sound deadening it will make ride quality way better.

I assume this required removing the roof liner? What product did you use, same as the doors?

Unfortunately didn’t take any pics. But I’ve put sound deadening in 3 other cars and the ranger was the easiest by far. Doors come off super easy and go back together just as easily. The roof is straightforward too. There are several videos explaining how to on YouTube.

i used learned from this video:

This is the sound deadening I used:
Amazon Basics Car Sound Deadener, 9.8″ x 15.7″ (34-Piece) https://a.co/d/cDzSm70

I put these egg carton foam piece’s behind the door speakers:
IZO All Supply Convoluted 2 Inch 12in W x 12in L Egg Crate Panels Acoustic Foam Sound Proof Wall Tiles, 6 Pack https://a.co/d/hjzrVQy

On the driver side only, I needed to take the molding behind the back seat off, unscrew the top of the seatbelts on the driver side, then just yank the appropriate moldings off. I pulled the roof liner down just enough to slide sound deadening pieces in there all across the roof. I guess I have long arms.

i’ve also done my doors- inside and out, and rear cab wall.

how hard was the headliner?
Headliner was easy. You don’t take it all of the way off, just pull it down enough to slide the sheets in. If you did the rear cab wall, you were like 1/3 of the way done with the headliner already.

Did you order the bulk roll? How much $$$ all in?

Some guy on the product page went to town on his Tacoma. I kinda like the idea.

All in cost for the sound deadening and foam was like $70. I got the 9.8”x15.7” 34 piece pack of the sound deadening. That was enough for all 4 doors, the back wall, and the headliner.

You only need to cover like 70-80% of the panel. After that it’s diminishing returns. After putting some of the material on a door panel, tap it and you’ll notice and immediate difference. Keep adding material till the tin can sound is gone. The inside of mine does not look like that Tacoma, that looks like extreme OCD ?

Any video or guide you followed to access the headliner/roof? I've got the doors and back wall all done already, but now thinking the roof would be another big value add.

So since you were able to "slide" it betweetn the headliner and the roof itself, I'm presuming you didnt bother with removing the adhesive backing, just sliding it in there with the paper on?

In close quarters inside doors I pushed the liner sheets up from the bottom with the backing still covering the adhesive except for a small lip at the top. Once I got the sheet in place I started pulling down on the backing and used a short piece of 1x2 that I rounded the end corners off and pushed it onto the door thru smaller access points to get it stuck then i just peeled and pressed my way down. Once it wad on I used a combo of my hands, the small rollers (I took a 3" disposable paint roller, pulled the roller off and pushed a piece of wooden closet rod onto the stem after I drilled a hole in the end. Worked fine. The seam rollers they sell for this are only an inch wide but I did use it at times. So my hands, 2 small rollers and the 1x2 to get it all stuck. I also cleaned the inside of the outer door skins with decreased then window cleaner to get the waxy rustproofing off. I get it resprayed yearly so I went a month or so without the waxy stuff. The dynamat is thicker than the Amazon stuff but 3x the cost so I used up what dynamat I had from my f150 and bought 2 boxes of Amazon deadening for way less than 1 box of dynamat and used a double thickness. The Amazon is more flexible because the back of it is dimpled like a screen wire mesh and made it easier to work with inside the doors. I did a double layer on all 4 doors on the outer skins and a single layer on the interior skins.

I may opt for doing the headliner but I'm currently getting ready to spray Raptor lining on the bottom of my boatm

I noticed a huge difference in quietness by adding a topper.
