I don't mind (I actually like something challenging) steep hikes but they can be to much for Annies knees. I'll look at these more later and print them out so I can see what's open or not to snow packed when we're there. Thx!
That hike up to Delta lake is VERY steep in spots, so if she has trouble with her knees I probably wouldn't recommend it. Going up might be OK, but coming back down is tougher that going up, especially on knees. It is an absolutely stunning lake however, and puts you right at the base of the Grand Teton which is really cool. That hike was 11.5 miles. You go up from the Lupine Meadows parking area.

There were other hikes we kind of wanted to do but ran out of time.

The modeled snow depth maps still show quite a bit of snow up there. I've found them to be pretty accurate so it would most likely not be accessible anyway. We hiked it in late July.

Just leave Annie in Jackson....plenty of shops and stores....she can "shop till she drops" while you go on your merry way hiking the trails.

Trust me I've already thought about doing that. I'm hoping to meet up with someone else in the same situation. lol

If we were there, we'd take you up on that...but reversed. Cheryl is the hiker, my knees won't let me, so I'd go with Annie, Cheryl would love the hike !!! :giggle:

He would need to buy a trailer to haul her stuff home.

You might change your mind once you've seen how much she buys. This was just the first store! o_O

Dave @AzScorpion , I can't help much since the last time I went through Jackson Hole, well the kids were kids. I will be going to Whitefish MT in Oct and hopefully get up to Glacier Park if the snow doesn't start too early.

Rob @RedlandRanger I might have to put the Clean Museum on places to see, that is if the wife doesn't schedule too many ghost towns.

Did you not see the picture of how much luggage Annie brought just for the two day trip to pick up MP2?? If he lets her loose on the stores while he's off hiking, he'll have to trade in MP2 for an 18-wheeler, just to cart all of her purchases home!

EDIT: See? Dave proved my point as I was typing this!

I've heard the same about Yellowstone from many others. As much as we want to go there (and will one day) we're going to skip it on this trip
I've heard from a couple people that you can dramatically decrease dealing with crowds at Yellowstone by going late in the season, after school starts back up but before the snow starts.

Yes, that's what I've heard too and at some point we'll try to do Yellowstone in September. Right now Annie can only bank 270 hours of vacation/pto time and anything over that she looses on her anniversary date which is July 16th. We like to try and get out of here during the summer heat for at least a month but we might just take another 2 week trip to Yellowstone soon.

Visiting the Museum of Clean was unplanned, but worth it. We stayed overnight at a nearby Holiday Inn Express that was really nice. Now my wife only wants to stay at Holiday Inn Express.

Sorry, John I mistook that Rob posted that. My wife likes museums so I will see if it is on our route.

Please allow input from someone that has lived near Jackson for over 20 years. I love it here but Jackson is somewhat of a "zoo." It's a good place to "window shop" and perhaps purchase a trinket or two, but you'll find most things very expensive, as you found the hotels to be. With that in mind, here are some things for you to consider. PM me for detailed travel from I-15 to Victor - trust me, it's worth it. In no order, here are some things for you to consider:
- In Jackson: Cowboy Bar - it's famous and of course, take pictures at the town square. The Wart Hotel, they have live music at the bar in the evenings and it's somewhat "famous" for formerly being a whore house.
- If you are into beer there is the "Brewery," a craft beer place near the base of Snow King Mountain. Snow King also has a concrete "slide" that's fun.
- On the north side of Jackson: National Wildlife Museum (it has a snack bar too)
- Across from the Museum is the National Elk Park. With sleigh rides to the herd for an up close and personal look. The visitor center on the north side of town is where to get tickets. Expensive ($200/ticket). Don't know if this is still running this time of year.
-Gondola ride up to the top of the ski area near Teton Village. Again, expensive. Beautiful view tho.
- Snake River White Water. I'd recommend Dave Hansen White Water (I went to high school with Dave in Iowa. He no longer owns it and I don't know the new owners). The various white water businesses are alike and all have gotten pricy.
- Since you'll operate out of Victorville suggest a drive north to nearby Driggs. On the north side is the Driggs airport. There is a restaurant that is next to the taxiway and many of those large hangars have numerous WWII warbirds and will taxi right by the your window. Surprising for such a small community. A couple of excellent lunch places in town too.
- From Victorville to Jackson you'll drive over Teton Pass and drive through (as someone said) Wilson. It's a wide spot in the road but there is a great place for breakfast, Nora's on the south side of the road at the main intersection.
- By all means as several have suggested, stop at Teton Park.
- Yellowstone is likely to be crowded (it always is) but if you stop, take the northern loop. Since most folks just go to Old Faithful, the traffic tends to "drive" the animals of the Park towards the north so you'll likely see more. There is also the "Falls" which should be really high this year given alls the snow we've had.
At the moment those are those that cross my mind and this is long enough,.

Thanks Jim! This is what I was hoping that someone local would have some good info. We almost rented an AirBnB in Driggs and that looks like a cool little town and will definitely check out the restaurant there. I'll PM you for directions. Thx!!
