Ok I ordered 5 months ago some Rock Rails for my 2020 Ranger Scab from Rocky Road Outfitters. I guess they might ship in a few weeks or so??? Anyway I was originally led to believe that they would use existing mount holes where possible with minimal drilling. Well I guess that I will need to drill 12 holes on each side which I just found out., I am not very happy about that. Question to the forum members here that have these rock rails?
Are these very easy to mount?
Would all these new holes make the frame susceptible to cracking or breaking?
Should I have them welded on instead?
I appreciate all your input and comments!

Thanks,

I have my eye on these and those by White Knuckle. I like the Rocky Road sliders better because they appear to angle up more for better clearance and don't stick out as far. I was aware of the drilling though and wonder about the install process as well. However, White Knuckle sliders use backing plates and look to be an extremely easy install process.

Well I wasn't planning on it myself either :whew: I have a personal mechanic and he said he would install them for me with my help. Still WOW drilling into my Lucille's frame. Rocky Road said that doing it that way makes them a lot stronger in case of any unforeseen crunch on large rocks etc.

Drill holes in the frame? Had no clue some companies expected someone to do that.

Not on my truck.
Your truck is still a baby so I wouldn't want to either.

Drilling into the frame is fine, if you look at it, it's full of holes everywhere. People have been drilling into the frames for slider installation for decades.

I will say that I had to drill 1 hole for my HMF sliders and it was a pain, the frame is hardened so it take a while, 12 holes will eat up your bits so have backups for sure. It would honestly be twice as fast to weld them on.

I have them with the rear kickouts. The wait was nearly 4 month long was worth it though.Yes they are a pita to install. But they are nearly 60 lbs a side with 4 mounts each. STOUT
I had planned on welding mine on but the shop that installed them encouraged me use bolts in case the get bent (i doubt that will happen) or I want to have them painted or recoated. It took the awhile, it was mentioned they went thru several drill bits. The 500 I payed them was worth it. I doubt they want to do it again
The quality and strength of these are the best I think on the market. After a year the powder coating still looks new no scuffs or wear. I have no regrets and think they are the best on the market.

Side note I was rearended pretty hard recently with no frame damage. Not sure what role the sliders played but they definitely strengthen the frame not weaken it. I almost pity the person that slams thier door into them...

OK I just had my Rocky Road Sliders installed yesterday. I love them. My mechanic charged me $300 to do it. We had to drill 24 holes in the frame. Also getting both sides aligned perfect isn't very easy but we got them almost 100% exactly aligned. You need special drills to get the upper holes drilled and I am so glad I had Joe my mechanic do this. He did a fantastic job. Those bad boys are going no where.

Looking good! 300 bux install is a deal.! I think if more saw how well these things are built and finished they would sell allot more. Well if they can build them lol.

Not sure anyone else offers a lifetime warrantee on bending for their sliders.

I have the White Knuckle, and they do offer a version that angles up for more clearance.

Thanks,
I don't know about mid size truck frames but on big rigs, drilling any holes will automatically void warranty...I drilled one per side for Shrock sliders but 12 sounds sketchy...might be better to weld it on?

Thanks,
Sorry I'm late to the game here... missed your post. I had mine welded on. See results here: https://www.ranger5g.com/forum/threads/rock-sliders-for-your-ranger.15333/page-3#post-337017
