…on a canyon run (Box Canyon in Florence, AZ)! It’s a local “Toyotas Only” group and they decided to open it up to any vehicle for a night. The group was still largely Toyotas, the only other outsider was a Jeep. There was a stock Tacoma TRD Pro but everything else was pretty built up. I’ve only got the Bilstein 5100s and I moved up in tires to a 255/75/17. I was pretty well outmatched and I could tell some of the members had their doubts, I honestly had my own doubts but I was committed to try.
By the end of the ride, all doubts were gone. We went over some very steep, off camber, terrain in the dark, we didn’t start until about 8 pm. We had a few spots of rock crawling. I had absolutely no issues keeping up and in a few spots I even outperformed some of the 4Runners. It was a great time. Took us a little over 4 hours to do 25 miles, we were probably moving for about 3.5 hours though, it was a very slow go at times. At the end I was given an open invite whenever I want to join them again and got some pretty positive feedback, some of those old school off-roaders were pretty impressed with the Ranger.
