what are you running Brush Guard wise? I am looking for a quality piece that will perform not some cheap ass dressy crap. Wifey wants things protected in case I should hit a deer, cow, moose or elk whilst traveling. been looking around and like most stuff millions of options so trying to narrow it down with some experience tales

If you want the best protection you're probably wanting the ARB bumper w/ gaurd.

All brush guards do is exacerbate damage. If you want actual protection, you need a full replacement bumper.

The entire point of buying a Ranger is that it's been Australia's best selling vehicle since 2011, and that country's entire aftermarket is available for it. The government there regulates everything heavily, including 4x4 accessories, so stuff made on that country will generally be safer, higher quality, and out perform most things made or designed here.

The ARB Summit bumper is a prime example. It's actually physically crash tested on Rangers, improves safety in high speed crashes, and is designed with pedestrians in mind.

Few years back, I hit a big ol' red kangaroo with one at 85 mph. Truck and 'roo were both unscathed. I've chosen vehicles that have ARB support, and fitted ARB bumpers to all of them ever since.

Come on, seriously? Kangaroo was unscathed after being hit with a large solid object at 85MPH? Had to be scathed, just a little.

This is what happens when you form your words based upon the marketing message you want to advance.

The VAST majority of aftermarket parts available for the Australian Ranger are either not available here or just flat out don't fit our truck.

There are a lot of good reasons to buy a Ranger. Aftermarket support on a different continent and a different truck is not one of them.

You ever seen a big red? They're just solid walls of muscle. Obviously I have no idea of his long term prognosis, but he just hopped off into the bush after without any evidence of injury.

I think any number of modifications has the potential to change an accident damage capacity. Suspension comes to mind as a prime example.

Outside sky is falling scenarios, as long as a brush guard is treated like the name implies they serve a stop gap role. The real crime is a majority of people who buy them honestly think they offer protection like a full on bumper replacement.

What if there was a test that could be performed to tell you how modifications change safety...

Yeah, I'm not trying to argue that getting hit is good for wildlife here. I'm making one that the ARB Summit is the best way to prevent damage from animal strikes.

Yes, question is how far do they run before they succumb to their injuries. I accidentally ran over a cat with my Focus once, struck the underside of the car multiple times. When I looked in the rear view, it was hauling ass back to his home. But that was the last time I ever saw it.
