Hi all, I do 3D modeling and printing as a hobby, and can do some pretty fancy stuff with my printer such as multi-material printing (up to 4 materials/colors). If any of you have a project in mind and you need modeling or printing and modeling let me know! I just took home a 2022 Ranger yesterday, so I have can use it as a test bed for any projects I design for others. Here's a couple of projects I'm working on for my 66 Dodge Dart, and a video of a module I designed and fabbed that hides the radio! I also own a 3D scanner, which really helps when trying to make sure a design will fit into a pre-existing space.

Hi Kevin,

How small can you print??? Here is a back story. Yesterday, my good friend and neighbor had to have his bladder and prostate removed...the doctor then rerouted his kidney output via a tube to an external bag which he will have to wear and change out frequently in a relative messy operation that at this juncture must occur in a shower. What I would like to "invent" is a system like NASCAR, IndyCar and Trans Am etc have for race refueling called a dry break system, so I am thinking of some similar system such that a bag change is "dry". This idea just came to me last night and not having seen the bags and the port in his right side, I am not sure how small these parts would be. It will be 3 to 4 months before he recovers from this surgery and tries to resume a "normal" life as much as possible.

Thanks,
Phil

I can definitely look into that...the parts sizes aren't much of a concern, I can print very small pieces. DM me any ideas you have for the functionality and we can go from there!

Phil,
This one is right up my alley. Certain materials are used for medical devices be it internal or external. I believe they do have small auto shutting connectors in use out there already. Think IV bags and the connections to them. They can’t introduce air into the fluid streams so the auto shutoff is all part of that. Once I have a hose size I could probably find something already made that is certified for medical use that is already produced.

internal units (think bladder shutoffs) are being developed right now. Peek is what we will probably go with once the testing phase trials begin. But they can only stay in the body for 3 to 4 months and then be swapped out

Hi Rick,

This is not a get rich quick for me....just trying to figure out a quality of life benefit for my dear friend. Something off the shelf would be tremendous! This is his first day of recovery in the hospital for about 5 to 7 days....Then a very serious bloating to the point he will look like the Michelin Man which will take 3 to 4 months.

Sad but this is the legacy of Cigars and chewing tobacco. He was in HR and the chewing was when he worked in a sawmill where smoking was banned (as were Bananas too?). He quoted the doctor as there are many more bladder cancer deaths due to smoking/chewing than the expected lung cancer... Surprising to me...

Best,
Phil

Wow that's terrible...Anything to help his quality of life I'm sure would go a long way. You're a good friend for looking into options for him! I'm sure something is out there that could work

Yep. Smoking can cause bladder cancer. My Dad was a heavy smoker until he quit at about 35. Bladder cancer got him at 74. First occurred in his late 60's. Expert at Duke told me the same thing. Bladder cancer? You were probably a smoker at some point.

Sucks. All the best to your friend.

Phil - as a frame of reference, my brother had a similar surgery and now has a bag that needs to be emptied every 2 or 3 hours. He can do it in a bathroom and it is normally not messy. I don't really know any details on it, but it seems like it should be doable. He has a relatively normal life, even after that surgery. He has had it for a few years now.

Phil, this is just one manufacturer of medical fittings like discussed. They’re pretty cheap to buy. https://www.qosina.com/search?q=Shutoff

I have a few ideas. What dimensions can your printer do?
256 x 256 x 256mm...but it's often feasible to print in multiple pieces and design it with some tabs or pins to align it. The center console I'll print eventually will be 9 pieces, maybe more

Among other things, I've always wanted a way to deal with the blank space at the corner of the battery, but my catch can is an obstacle.

I can get a cheapo 3D printer, but a scanner is way out of my budget.

So some sort of panel to cover the blank area? Or a compartment or some sort?
