hey there, I'm new to this, and i just bought a 2021 Ford Ranger XLT FX4, and with it being my first nice truck (not a beater) i am noticing every little sound. Whenever i my truck idles it has this ticking sound (almost sounds like a clock) only thing i could think of it being is something with the A/C because when i have the A/C off i don't normally hear it. here is a video of what it sounds like, thanks for any helpful answers in advance!

Sounds like a noisy waste gate on your turbo.
Hmm didnt think about that, wouldnt there need to be a leak though? i would figure if there was a leak my truck would throw an error at me or something.

I hear the same thing on my '21 and assumed it was the HPFP. No other problems are present when driving or idling, so I just let it go.

Someone on here said it was their engine cooling fan clutch
making that noise.

It’s the canister purge valve, unplug it next time you hear it and you’ll see.

If it was the purge valve it would be clicking 24/7 and going along with the rhythm of the idle. mine will click once a second (like a clock) for a period of time then stop clicking for a while...…..then start again later. it seems to be very precise in its ticking and when it starts/stops.

Fyi, purge valve only operates at designated times, not all the time. They are hit with a duty cycle that makes a rhythmic ticking when it’s doing its thing.
