About 4 or 5 weeks ago, I made the appt for mid-March at the Ford dealership where I've taken my Ranger to since I bought it. )It's the Ford dealership closest to me, not where I bought my truck.) I talked to Service first to get the appt for the Works oil change (full synthetic oil) and my yearly PA state inspection; then I was switched over to the body shop to make the appt for the hood. I specifically told the body shop that I wanted to do everything the same day (he asked didn't I want to come sooner).
So I was in and out pretty quick for the oil change and state inspection and then drove the Ranger across the lot to their body shop. Went in, told them my name and that I had an appt for the hood alignment. The young guy waiting on me came out with me to look at the truck. He said he better go get his manager after he looked at the truck, wasn't sure it was covered under warranty. An older guy came out (I assume the manager). I showed him what needed to be done on the driver's side of the hood. Told him about loosening the bolts, pulling the fender with 2 strong hands, tighten bolts back up... a 10 minute job! Started mumbling stuff about warranty and I told him it better be covered under warranty because it's been like this since i got the truck! Then he opened the driver's side door, looked at the area around the hinge, shut the door and said, "Well all this needs to be loosened too to get to it and lift the panel." At this point, I'm just starting to loose my cool but I held it in and said, "Nooooo, you loosen these bolts here, you don't need to touch that, it's a 10 minute job." He said, "Who told you that?" Told him I belong to the Ranger forum and this is a common problem and that most can fix it themselves. Get this... he then said, "Ha ha, keyboard warriors, yep, listen to them. Then why don't you do it yourself?!" Told him I don't have the strength in my hands. Then he walks to the back of the truck and I see him look at the lower corner of the tailgate where my selling dealer's little decal is. He then said, "Did you try taking it back to the dealer where you bought it?" I said, "No, but I did talk their service dept and it is a 10 minute adjustment." He asks, "So why don't you take it there?" I told him, "Because I always bring my truck HERE for warranty and service work and I wanted to get everything done in one trip." He says, "Let me go inside and see if you were in the schedule." Looks at the computer and tells me I was penciled in just to have the truck "looked at". I said, "ARe you freaking kidding me.... I made the appt over a month ago!?!" He replied, "Well, your going to have to make another appt for when you can leave the truck for the day." At that point, I looked at him is disgust and said "Good by" and walked past 2 more customers as I went out the door.
I then drove back across the lot to the service department. Went in and told the guy manning the desk what happened. I asked to speak to the General Manager. I was told he was out for the day but that I could have his card if I wanted to call tomorrow to speak to him. Now picture a woman who is about ready to stomp her feet and say I'm not leaving until I get my hood fixed! At this point my tone is getting louder, told him about the manager at the body shop and how rude he was. I said something about having the Ford Premium ESP warranty through 2029, and I heard someone else say, "That doesn't apply to collision though". I replied, "This isn't from collision, this is a quality control issue, truck has been like this since I got it... and I was going to just live with it, but I figured I'd get it fixed since I was coming in." Next thing I know, the Service Manager walk in and hears me.... says, "Lets go have a look." I took him out, told him it was a simple 10 minute fix and showed him the bolts. He said, "I'm not a body shop guy, but I can give it a go." Goes back in, gets the tools and does exactly what I told him needed done. Took no longer than 10 minutes if that. Thanked him and he said as long as I'm a happy camper I'm good to go!
Sometime this afternoon I'm going to go write a Google review for their body shop. It won't be good.
