2020 Ranger XT STX Pre-Collision sensor location

My Pre-collision never activated when I almost needed it. I stomped on the brake and avoided collision. Wondered why it didn’t send any warning. Then a few months after that I got the display warning but no audible for no reason at all. Dealer “checked” it but gave the excuse that no codes were seen so must be ok. I asked him how to test real world. Blank stare!!

Going to test with cardboard at >3mph as suggested on another long thread from 2019. Plus my A/S/S hasn’t worked in a year. Display always says charging. Back to dealer for that one. 2020 XLT with 302a package.

I have a 2019 Ranger and it’s driven very little, 11K in 3 years mostly short trips running errands. I find my ASS does not work either unless I leave my truck on the battery tender over night. I keep the ASS off by default but switch it back on occasionally so I can determine if I need to put the charger on the truck again. I don’t care for ASS but it’s a good tool for determining if the battery is well charged or not.

I have just rolled over 15K miles on my Ranger. Almost all towing. When towing, I manually turn A/S/S off so I can let the truck idle while gassing up or when I pull into a rest area to let the turbo cool down. Now for the last month or so my A/S/S has also decided to quit working. No complaints but I wonder if maybe it's a symptom of something important.

The A/S/S not working is the first indication that your battery is failing. You can always switch the screen that tells you why A/S/S isnt operating. Could be inside temp, battery charging, tow mode, steering wheel angle.

I always leave that Screen On. It always says Battery Charging despite driving 10 miles or so on a highway. Load Tested battery and it’s Marginal. Will ask Ford dealer for new battery or install new one to prove that ASS system only works with a new battery. My 3 year warranty expires in August. Only have 8000 miles on truck.

Once the battery is replaced, using FORScan, change the max battery charge to 95%. From the factory, its set at 75%.

Yes. I read about that. Gotta find some other Ranger owner in DE since that would be all I ever need to do with it. Versus buying it, then other charges?

OK just tested with cardboard. Collision Sensitivity is set at High. Windshield is clean.

Ran tests with cardboard 28” x 58”. Tested in horizontal and vertical positions.

Car at 10 mph in driveway. Drove at speed within 2-3’ of cardboard 3 times each. NO Warning on Dash or Alarms. No Automatic Braking.

What is Orange Line across Camera?

You can do a real world test by suddenly speeding up to a vehicle in front of you.
Seems the systems calculates the speed and distance together.

Mine comes on occasionally as I try to over-take slow pokes that freak out over a drop of rain.

Just need a laptop with bluetooth and the OBD adapter. You can get a free license of the program which is good for 3 months I believe.

That orange line has something to do with calibration.

@Ranger Roger - I am a driver that is frequently in metropolitan rush hour traffic and I have a theory that this camera is looking for brake lights illuminating. My camera goes off (beep mode only,) pretty frequently in stop-and-go traffic, especially at night. I've often had the thought "I wonder if it's responding to all of these brake lights.." because people are not necessarily panic braking. Just being typical impatient bumper huggers during rush hour.

I have a theory that is why your test failed. The camera probably does not recognize flat walls as a danger scenario for braking assist. That is my understanding is it is not "automatic braking" it's a braking assist. It will apply more force than you are giving as an input with the pedal, but you must touch the pedal.

But every time I start the truck, that row of HUD-display red lights on the dashboard comes on.

All Rangers have the Pre-collision and AEB, it's pretty much standard on all Fords and most makes now.
