My questions are primarily aimed at those that are over 60 years of age , but of course all comments would be most welcome.

Ive recently had my 74th birthday and I’m surrounded by a loving family and in general good health and although I seem to get easily get stressed out , I try to stay as positive as I can . But now I’m constantly finding my self getting all worked up when ever I start think about my age .

I know to some reaching the age of 74 is a bonus and some thing to be proud of , but personally I just can’t seem to stop worrying about the fact that I’m now on the downward slope of life and my time is running out .

So there you are your in the later stages of your life and trying to enjoy what time you may have left before the grim reaper comes knocking at your door , you are no doubt trying to stay as healthy as possible may be watching your diet and keeping physically active.

But what I would like to know is how are you mentally dealing with and coming to terms in the knowledge that you time on earth is slowly coming to the end , maybe some of your friends who you grew up with have already passed away and its now playing on your mind.

So what are you doing to try and stay mentally positive as the years seem to be shooting by and in all likelihood your body is starting to show the signs of your age.

Gone is that once magnificent hair , your past youthful tight facial skin has been replaced with sagging and drooping jowls . Your hands are becoming covered with ominous brown liver spots and you seem to be walking more slowly and arthritis may have become your constant companion . The aging signs are all there .

You are getting old and the little voice living inside your head keeps reminding you that its all down hill from now on and add to that you now seem to be getting bitter and angry at the drop of a hat

How are you combating that little voice in side your head that keeps announcing that your sands of time are running out , what getting old curse antidote have you found and you can share that makes you stay positive even when your looking in the bathroom mirror and only see a wrinkly old man man staring back at you. What are you doing to try and keep upbeat about getting old.

So if your like me and heading down the slope of life towards the big unknown , what words of wisdom , comfort or advice could you offer that will make me feel more positive and happy about being 74 years old .

Yes I know I’m aging. I am sooo dearly paying for the stupidity of my youth. Between work and taking care of my parents both in their 80s taking care of me is back burner. But damn I now have a lotta Dr appts. Imaging. Labs. Surgeries and it isn’t half of what I need

I think I “got it” 10 years ago when I had cancer. After getting your ass kicked from that your outlook on life changes quite a bit. I’m on borrowed time now the way I see it. I expect to go a long ways too. Most importantly, I deal with the big stuff when needed, and let the little stuff go, and stay away from Debbie downers. Age is a number, it’s how you mentally keep the youthful outlook. Stay active

As Trigg was saying above I also had cancer at 54. That is a eye opener. When your lucky enough to beat that bastard life is easy. I had 3 surgeries for that. Then my left retina reattached after having my right one reattached 10 years ago. Then both eyes had cataract surgery. Then I retired last January and right before coming to the Philippines I had my gall bladder and appendicts removed. So yes getting old sucks, or does it? Enjoy your time with family and if your health is still good living in paradise then your golden. Besides is negative thoughts healthy?

I'm sorry your experiencing such things , if you could magically turn the clock back to your past youth , what would change or do differently .

I have decided to not let things I have no control over rule my life be it short or long.
FYI, I am 75. :like:
Hi , I understand the '' no control '' view , but at 75 years old do you make an effort to may be extend your life span as far as possible through diet and exercise . Ive recently turned 74 and I'm now getting scared and frightened that my time may be running out .

Age is just a number. A coworker of mine just lost his wife to cancer at 40. Just enjoy what you have and don't focus on age as negative. It's a milestone that should be cherished.

I maintain it is not the QUANTITY of years, but the QUALITY of the years you have on this planet that matters. Extending the number years just to exist isn't living, IMO. My mom spent the last 5 years of her life in a facility, not really living, IMO. I've seen others in even worse situations.

At some point, we all need to realize there is no "get out of jail free card" and we will all exit this planet at some point. One perspective I heard on that was the "dash" concept. On a tombstone, there is the year you are born and the year you died. Between those two years is the dash - and that is where life is lived - the question is "what did you do with your dash?"

That is the key! Make a conscious decision. I am in a cancer "cease fire" not really a battle, My prostate cancer comes and goes even though I had my prostate removed in 2018. I'm planning a motorcycle trip from the Twin Cities area to the Canadian Rockies with three friends. At 73, I'm the youngest.
