My Ranger is hibernating

I wonder why mine doesn't hibernate while on my tender. It's been well over 60 days now and it's still awake. I only started plugging it in after seeing notices after just a few days. I figured my battery may have been getting low.

Where is your tender's Neg wire connected, top of BMS, bypass BMS, or frame ground, just curious.

Mine went to sleep last week with the maintainer on it. We have been driving the snot out of our CR V. I just don't know how many days it was because I do not get that detailed. It has done it before so it is a timed thing. I fixed the problem by using it for truck stuff.

Not the frame. I don't remember off the top of my head, but not directly to the battery terminal. I followed a link posted in a battery thread here, that showed how the system worked and where to connect a battery charger. I connected the tender the same way.

We have been driving my wife's new Subaru because it handles the garbage weather better with the all wheel drive automatically engaging with changing conditions. All my previous trucks had auto 4wd modes that are much better for the winter weather we see I am finding.

I am the same way with my AWD 2003 Mountaineer. I prefer driving it in the Winter mess over the Ranger; I don't know if it's that I'm more familiar with how it will handle.

Haven't driven it since before Christmas and checked the app today. Got a message it has entered the deep sleep mode and connectivity is temporarily unavailable. Manually turn on your vehicle to deactivate this mode. Guess it has gone into hibernation even with the ctech charger having the battery fully charged. Guess I'll let it sleep till spring.

My Bronco is doing the same thing. Was prepped for long term storage on 5 December. Went into DSM 2 weeks later…

You think I have it connected wrong, because it doesn't hibernate? I read that the way I was connecting it, the system didn't know I was actually charging it.

It's possible Mike. This is the way the instructions on my maintainer specified on how to ground it and mine will hibernate. Give it a try and see if it helps. Fyi there's very little room to get the nut off so be careful you don't drop it.

According to videos I've seen on the proper way to charge a vehicle with a BMS (Battery Monitoring System), like our Rangers, this is fine. Really no different than using chassis ground. It's just easier for me to connect it there. It remains odd to me that you are getting hibernation notices at a set time period, and I do not. Even after 60+ days.

It's just easier for me to connect it there. It remains odd to me that you are getting hibernation notices at a set time period, and I do not. Even after 60+ days.

To me, it seems you are the one with the issue. I like the ability to check on my vehicle's status from time to time, without actually having to go in the garage and look. ?

If you are viewing and refreshing the app frequently, I wonder if that is enough to keep the truck awake? I’ve noticed that when I refresh the “vehicle“ page of the app, the truck wakes up and makes the sound that many here equate with priming the fuel pump. I’m not sure that’s what it’s doing, but that’s neither here nor there. Maybe experiment and don’t refresh the app for a couple of weeks and see if it goes to sleep.

I'd put money that this is the reason. If you actually include the BMS module in your charging circuit, it actually knows the SOC on the battery, if you don't, BMS thinks the battery is only continuing to discharge when you may in-fact be charging it. It's all about the loop in the circuit and going to a ground on the chassis cuts out BMS, thus deep sleep is normal.
