2022 Lariat Windshield Replacement

I posted a video of the windshield replacement on my Ranger.

It starts with a dash cam clip of a passing truck throwing a boulder into my glass and initiated a spreading crack.

The one curious thing I learned is that, while I have the Lariat trim, I did NOT have a windshield with heating wires in it. Yet, the installer shows that the connector for it was there. It appears that if I had known that, I could have bought the windshield with the heating elements and the connector to hook into the truck wiring already there.

I thought the dark area around the cameras is heated to prevent condensation on the inside. But I may be wrong.

Jeez.... is nothing easy on these trucks? Am I going to, assuming I get mine, change the oil the first time and find out that I have to adjust the voltage on the thingamajig on the side of the flux capacitor? I mean damn. Windshields? Used to be simple.

Yeah windshields use to be very simple. I remember going through the junk yard with a buddy looking for one, popping it out then going home and installing it in his car. Now you need a PHD in electronics for one. lol But the camera isn't really any big deal as all the glass companies do this and only adds about 20 minutes or so to the instal.

I'd call them tomorrow and make sure they calibrate it. I'm guessing they did but today you never know. In the video he does mention putting the camera back together but it was strange he didn't mention you have to recalibrate it.

Also I'd disagree with driving it in the rain at least for the first 24hrs. I've been through some really heavy downpours where it's just as bad as me washing it with a power washer because it's consistent rain and coming at it from all different angles. I've always liked Safelite Auto Glass as they've always been great and the installers are very professional.

When I had my windshield resealed for the recall they didn't do it either and I to take it back to Ford so they could calibrate it. Took about 40min. They had to drive it for a few few miles with IDS hooked to it. Found out Forscan can do the calibration if you have your license for it.

Call the glass company back or go to the dealer, or use Forscan if you have it.

Had to get my windshield replaced last year ('19 Lariat). I had to instruct the company replacing my windshield and the technician that they needed to ensure the wire/connection was present on the windshield. They argued that "It doesn't snow in CA so you don't need it". I refused and they had a hell of a time getting the part. After all that debacle, I ensured they also did the re-calibration. As others have stated, it is best to do a re-calibration either yourself or at a dealer/shop.

The camera on the windshield can be thrown off if the position has just slightly changed (think millimeters here) and could potentially be catastrophic.

If you look at your windshield from the outside where the camera is near rear view mirror mount you will see a little wire in there. That is the heating element for the camera. It keeps fog from condensating on the inside surface of windshield in the camera housing.

The new windshield was a Ford part I bought at the dealership where I work (with an employee discount) so I'm hoping to hear that the camera already attached to the new windshield was calibrated to that windshield. So, I'm going to ask if that's the case. The installer only took off the cover and disconnected the wire(s).

Thank you for that. I’m still wondering if the wired windshield can be ordered and restore that capability since the truck wiring for it is still there. The wired windshield would have to be available to customers replacing the wired windshield. The hood assists were deleted but adding assists back took a few seconds since their mounts were still on the truck. Maybe we should start a thread on deleted things that are easy to restore since mounts and wiring are still there?

No calibration in the field but the Ford original windshield comes with the two cameras attached that are needed for my trim and I would think that those cameras are already matched to the glass.
