Well, I went out to my garage and had a long conversation with my Ranger. Basically it went like this...
Me...Why is your mpg so bad ?
Truck...I'm a truck...what did you think the mpg was gonna be ? I weigh over 4000 lbs, have a turbo that you like to spin up, and I carry around a bunch of weight in my bed !!! And, I occasionally tow your 6500 lb trailer !!!
Me...Is there anything I can do to get better mpg ???
Truck...Yeah, get a friggin Prius !!!

So, I decided to keep Truck and NOT get a Prius !!!

No, it's not....and I can prove it !!!
Go out to your truck, start it up, leave it in park for 5 minutes, and then tell me if your odomomator registered any mileage increase !!!
I'll bet it doesn't !!!

You are splitting hairs. In the context of this thread mileage = miles per gallon or mpg.

No your trucks odometer will not change while the engine is running in park but the economy display's mpg or mileage will go down.

Using that formula...
Fill up your tank with 18 gallons. Drive 18 miles. Park your truck, let it idle in park till it uses up tank of gas...all 18 gallons.
Your mpg for that tank would be one mile per gallon.

You could just watch the instant fuel economy function on the Economy page in the dash.
I think you really need to be watching the road and not a bunch of gauges especially with all the idiots out on the road these days!

Can't wait to see what type of discussions come up with the "lectric" Fords.....
"What type of mpc (miles per charge) are you getting ?
"How can you go 223 1/7 miles per charge when I only get 216 1/9 mpc ?"
"How fast can I go till my battery needs charging ?"
"Is there a difference between summer electric and winter electric ?"
:headbang:

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that’s not going to happen. Since you are sitting around burning fuel what difference does it make?
Brilliant idea! Use Trip 2 or B or whatever it's called. And a notebook - sounds like too much work for me, but that would be pretty accurate.
Now you’re just being silly. In todays world I don’t think people know how to use a notebook, unless it’s a notebook computer ?

You're right! I had a friend, many years ago, who kept track of everything for his Chevette! Oil changes, tires pressure, gas, and who know what else.

Now that's a bit of misplaced energy for a Chevette!

A bunch of gauges? The instant fuel is one gauge, takes the entire center screen. You just have to glance at it. Get over yourself.

Yep! That's the way it works. Idling time negatively impacts your overall mpg

Dad did that for every car we ever had since before I was born. Every gas fill up, every service. All had the date, mileage, and cost associated on that line with a little memo in his ledger that rode between the drivers seat and console - or hump (pre consoles).

He said that it would increase the resale value of the car. Then when people bought the car he'd show them the book like it was magical. When they bought the car and drove off we could see them throw that book out the window before they hit the end of the street.
