Maybe I'm getting wimpy as I get older because we use to hit every concert that came to town and stood (many were general admission back then) right in the front row. The loudest was Ted Nugent/Blackfoot! It was so loud I remember having to get off the floor because I was getting a headache. My ears are still ringing today from that one.
Jethro Tull was like that back in the day, almost like you were sitting on a park bench. Styx was pretty loud too. More recently Bon Jovi can crank it out.

As far as loud concerts are concerned, back in 1991, I saw Neil Young and Crazy Horse perform at the Myriad Arena in Oklahoma City. It was on the Ragged Glory tour.

Sonic Youth and Social Distortion were the opening bands, and I thought that they were the loudest bands I had ever heard. That was true until Neil Young took the stage and the curtains were raised revealing 20 foot tall Fender "amps" that must have had dozens of huge speakers inside.

The sound was so loud you could feel the thumping on your chest. I think my ears are still ringing from that day.

That concert tour was captured on the live album, Weld.

One never knew what you were going to get at a Neil Young concert, temperamental dude , who went thru various phases in his musical career, posted this before but it remains my favorite Neil young clip :

Also I posted about Jim Morrison and the Doors, I've occasionally watch the Big Interview with Dan Rather and it's sometimes entertaining and borderline bizarre - with some rock stars formerly known for being wild being asked sometimes naive stupid questions by Rather who is always serious and conservatively dressed in a sport coat and seems amazed at some of the answers. He interviewed Robbie Krieger and John Densmore and Rather asks if they were ever concerned about Morrison's out of control behavior, Densmore and Krieger pause for a moment and Krieger says "yes there was this one time Jim was for days tripping on acid" Densmore interrupts and adds " and Jim used to do a whole lot of acid but this time he was even worse" the look on Rather's face was priceless.

What gets me every time is when the sound of distant sirens are in the song or advertisement. I'm always looking in all mirrors and getting ready to pull over....then I turn down the radio and think I'm an idiot. You're not all alone OP.

That & a freaking ring tone!!!!

Saw George Thorogood yrs back, in the 80's? It was loud, yes, but I could no longer speak
for a few days after, so much fun. The whole place was just yelling to his songs, great night.

For the record, I turn my radio down or off when parking/backing up for exactly that reason. It is a distraction and I can't focus well with a lot of loud noise.

I have your back, @Tracy Bowman ;)
Thank you, Chris!

My apologies.

I consider myself a connoisseur of sarcasm (having 2 sons and working IT will do that for you)

I'm feeling pretty rotten today and my sarcasm detector isn't working very well.
Hope you get to feeling better, Dennis.

I was driving home from work when The Talking Heads "Burning Down The House" came on the radio. I cranked the volume to 12 and continued down the highway.

A minute or so later, I rested my knee sideways against the door panel, and after a few seconds I noticed a very persistent vibration. THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP. I thought, "Did I run over something? Is a tire out of balance?"

Then I realized that it was the bass drum from the song.

When I had my '21 Outback, I had the dealer replace the windshield after a dump truck threw a golf ball sized rock at it. It rained a lot a few days after. Next time I took it for a ride I heard water sloshing all around and it sounded like it was coming from behind the steering wheel in the dash/back of the engine compartment. I was convinced it was a botched windshield install and water was collecting where it shouldnt.

The outback forum had me convinced it was an issue with my heat exchanger due to low coolant (that engine does seem to burn through coolant and my level seemed low for a year old car, so i topped it off).

After a week I was out of ideas and called the dealer with an accusatory tone... scheduled to take it in.

Then I realized my Yeti water bottle had been missing for a week and found it under my driver seat half full of water ?.

I had to call the dealer back and inform them their services were no longer required in this matter.

So Long story... ummm... long, I know how you feel.

I saw George late 80's. Went to the show with my uncle who was in a wheelchair. I was content in the back but he couldn't see and said, push me up front. He started tapping people and pulling their shirts, they would move aside and we got up front. Right in front of a stack of speakers. Great time but I swear that is why I hear better out of the left ear than the right.

Several years ago, there was an annual festival in St Paul, MN called Taste of Minnesota. Originally it was a decent event, with mostly Twin City food vendors and restauranteurs, but some from out state. The last time we went, (late 80s?) there was a metal band there, whose bass was so painfully over amped, we couldn't get far enough away, so we left and never went back.

I think the 130dB concert volume thing is like the beer thing we used to do in our 20s. At the start of a party, provide decent beer: case or pony keg. Then, as everybody got drunk and/or high, break out the cheap, bottom feeder brand. Few noticed, no one cared.
At ear bleed concert volume, few notice whose on the wrong verse, out of tune, time, or harmony; no one cares.

When my boys were teens and prone to blasting whatever death metal they listened to ..I would make sure the radio was tuned to whatever mellow sappy or suitably offensive to them music when subjected to riding with me... When the ex ticked me off... Lights... Wipers radio blasting death metal was more called for ... Situation varies for me based on the message I was delivering
I do this if I have to hop on some scumbag's truck at work. When they first see me they're excited they're gonna get some help, that excitement dwindles when I hop in the drivers seat.

And when I switch the Bluetooth over to my phone I usually ask, "what kind of music do you like?" They'll answer something, and I'll proceed to play the exact opposite while I run their ass onto the ground. "Ohh you like hip hop/R&B? Check out this Sepultura, ohh it's that house there, go!"

They quickly figure out that neither one of us wants me to be there.

Might have shared this story here before but when I was 18/19 I bought a SWB C10 with dual tanks. It was winter, so that night while leaving a lady friend's house I was warming it up and showing it off when it died on me only to refuse to restart. I was livid. Left a nasty message on the dealership's answering machine telling them to pick that POS up with a tow truck and I wanted my money back. As soon as I hung up the phone I figured it out .

Switch the truck to on, flipped the switch to the other tank, truck fired right up. Called and left another message about how much of an idiot I was.

I was going to have my Ranger looked at for an annoying buzz that was coming from the stereo.

On the way to the dealer I thought to myself "I wonder if that's coming from the sub I added?"

Unplugged the sub and noise was gone. The sub was amplifying the artificial engine noise.

So I called the dealer with a "Never mind" and let them know what the issue was.

Turned off the engine noise with ForScan and now I can enjoy my sub again.
