glad that the lenses are taking care of things for now. loss of vision sounds terribleMy eyes are both -7 and something. An old accident. Can't do eye surgery, I will be blind as a result.
Found the best doctor for myself to take care of me and time to time I carry some of my money to her. Lenses are allowed. Life goes on! At least for a while.
I had this done as well.I remember when my father had cataract surgery about 15 years ago they offered him the option of one eye short vision the other long. After a while you brain adapts and you end up with acceptable long and short sight, some people never adapt however so they trialled it with glasses before the procedure.
I had RK in 94, then Lasik in 2007, then right retina reattached in 2010, cataract in 2011 then 2012. Then left retina reattached in November 21.Hi Sid,
Rk is Radial Karotomy (sp?)...literally cutting the lens like a pizza....Lasik is much better....
Best,

Just need cheaters for reading and close work. My retinologist called me a medical miracle that I still see out of my right eye. After all that and end up with good vision says you have a good doctor!Prayers go out to all of you dealing with older parents or lost.
Since this has become a thread of eye storys, ill give you mine. I've always been nearsighted, started wearing glasses in first grade. Wore contact lenses for a while till I needed bi-focals, then back to glasses. Then at about 55 I developed a vein occlution in my right eye. Started getting shots in my eye every 5 weeks to control the swelling. Then two retinal detachments that were lazered down. Then cataract surgery both eyes. Then a third detachment, which they did a full vitrectomy to repair. I've had over 45 shots in my right eye and was out to 11 weeks between shots. Swelling has been stable now for 6 months. After cataract surgery I have 20-30 in my left eye and 20-40 in my right, and was able to get the glasses requirement off my drivers license.Just need cheaters for reading and close work. My retinologist called me a medical miracle that I still see out of my right eye.
PS: I know it sound horrible but you do get use to shots in the eye. Better than going blind.
I am very thankful that I have access to very good health care in my area and my insurance has been good to me. You don’t want to see the bill for my liver transplant. Only cost me my out of pocket max. Which was $4500.After all that and end up with good vision says you have a good doctor!
I chose the long vision instead of close because I preferred it for driving. It has really worked out well in my case even though I still need to wear glasses.I remember when my father had cataract surgery about 15 years ago they offered him the option of one eye short vision the other long. Going on 3 years since transplant and feeling great. The actual operation was 5.5 hours and a 2 week hospital stay. Was very short as they say a normal operation is 7-10 hours. Bill was close to 1M but of course the insurance didn’t pay that much. Medical billing is so crazy.Lee,
I can't image what your transplant cost was, but probably astronomical. Hope the procedure is working out for you and you're doing well. I had a minor prostate procedure (Urolift) done in 2019 which consisted of a 3.5 hr. hospital stay (Prep / 2 hrs. in the OR / Recovery). Was shocked that the hospital charge was 36K! Fortunately, my co-pay was only $300 for the hospital visit.
God Bless your family. My wife and I have been caring for her 87 YO dad and 98 YO mom. Her dad passed last Tuesday and now her mom seems lost. It’s fortunate my wife is retired and can help fill the emptiness her mom has.
Blessings to all.
I tried it in a different setting, as we get older of course we loose near sight, I found I was missing clay pigeons because the receiver and front sight on the shotgun was no longer clear but the target was. I got a pair of medium readers and knocked out one lens, leaving the side in for my aiming eye in. Worked a treat, I could see the front bead and the clay perfectly. This is what I'm experiencing and how I found out that I have the start of catarac in one eye...sitting in front of a monitor screen with one eye out of focus...can never can get used that...
Yes the theory is as it heals the cornea is pulled into the corrected shape and corrects the vision - in theory, in practice although it works, a lot of people report halos and glare from bright lights afterwards, a bit like the glare you see from a crack in a windshield, and for the same reason - internal reflection and diffraction.Hi Sid,
