My first Ford daily driver was a used 1991 Ford Explorer XLT four door 4x4. I bought it in 1995 with about 30k miles on it. It made numerous trips from Iowa to Virginia and back and spent a lot of time muddy from off roading. I finally got rid of it in 2006 with just under 300k miles on it. I absolutely loved that thing and it’s my goal now to find a Gen 1 four door Explorer to restore and lift.

1974 Mustang II Ghia. Got it in '76 with 30K miles on it. Had the V6. Would have been better I think to have swapped it out with about a 10 HP Briggs & Stratton. One good thing, it did have a 4 speed so I got good with a stick early. As a kid with a new license it served me well.

Bought it for $2600. Drove it, and I mean drove it, for four years. Good thing it was a gutless wonder. I forget the exact miles I put on the odometer but it was about 50K that I added. Totaled it in college. Yes, stupidity was most definitely involved. Luckily no one was hurt. And the insurance company paid me $2400. Not bad!

Used that money for the down payment on a '78 Monte Carlo. (When you are a kid buying used you can't as easily stick to "Ford only!") That one only had about 20K miles on it. Thought I'd hit the lottery. Kept that one right on through my time in the Army. Even though it also endured a bit of stupidity too. Luckily no bent sheet metal involved. Served me well.

Got out of the Army and traded it in on my first brand new car. Ordered it. 1986 Mercury Cougar. 302 V8 with fuel injection. First year for the fuel injection. Ordered in June, didn't receive until December. Ford tried to change it to a V6 2 or 3 times. Some parts supply issue kept screwing them up for the V8 fuel injection. I kept refusing and waiting on the V8. Loved, LOVED that car. Washed it once a week... or more. Waxed it monthly. Young man with his first new car. Nothing like it. No car since has had that impact. Nor could it. Just a different stage of life.

Sorry, went farther down memory lane than just my first car.

Did I mention the mustang was gutless?

I've posted it before, but my first car that I owned (daily driver) was a Ford (technically a Mercury here in the states - everywhere else in the world it was a Ford). It was a 1973 Capri. This is what it looked like then:

And this is what it looks like now (yes, I still have it):

When I first started driving, I drove my parents car. Then I got a motorcycle, but after one year of the wintertime rain in Oregon, I decided I needed a car. Motorcycles aren't great daily drivers in the winter here in Oregon.
I loved those Capris!!!!!!!!!! Can't believe you still have it. Nice!

Hi Folks,

My first drive in a Ford (not a daily driver) was Jan 3, 1973. It was a pool vehicle at Ford Truck Operations, The snow was mid calf and I had to find this pool vehicle with the numbering on the windshield which was snow covered.... Coming from University of Central Florida, I had no snow brush, but I did find the F150 and not knowing the layout, headed out the the Experimental Garage to get my "tools" from the DM Crib...I had no clue what a Crib was either. So my daily driver was in short order, a 1971 Pantera. What a POS, but what a looker....young and foolish purchase. Anyway it worked for me. Electrical System was a POS. The 351C was potentent for sure. Gear box was not up to the task but I found a new spare which I installed at 20K miles. I bought it with 6000 miles on the odo. My replacement was a 1978 Fiesta. Mature and affordable decision but I did sell the Pantera for more than I paid for it...

First Ford, I've always been a German car guy, VW, BMW, Porsche, only one other domestic in my life, a 1990 Dodge Dakota 4x4 I bought new.
Just goes to show... there's always hope for anyone. Glad you've finally seen the light!

1970 Ford Country Squire Station Wagon. I don’t have any pictures of it because they got damaged when a shed collapse and all my old photo albums got soaked. It was mostly blue, but this shows the size and style.

It obviously was a big chick magnet.

1969 Mustang Mach 1 which my dad was the original owner and bought as a leftover in 1970 for $1700. That sat mostly because my mom didn't trust me in it so I had a 1978 Mustang II for most daily driving.
Mom's are smart like that.

OMG!!! LMAO here. "Factory 8 track." That was bad ass at the time. I still remember installing my first 8 track player in my Mustang 2! Thought it was hot shit when I was done. Too funny.
