.Maybe it's the work of that banned dancing banana gent seeking retribution on valued board contributors such as I.
Until seeing the damper in the pic I had suspicions (fears) that someone might be targeting non dampered (damperless} rangers .

How about a door/window contact on the tailgate (so that an alarm goes off when someone opens the tailgate)? At least to try and scare off the critters.

Install a mercury switch inside tailgate connected to horn relay. With an on/ off bypass in cab?

Im going to make a bracket. Ill post pics in the next few days and link in here. I remember 80s corvettes or cameros put something in to stop a similar situation.

I was thinking the same thing. An 1/8 aluminum plate that went over the back of the assembly and was contoured to the body surfaces. Some good automotive double stick on full mount surface and should stop that.

Would be really nice if would go on from the outside so the goons would see that and not trash the metal attempting to go for it.

What a PIA.

Has anyone at least found security screws to use?
Others have ground down the bolt so you need to use pliers to unscrew it. I was thinking just to use 2 different type of fasteners. Slowing down is your only goal. If they really want it they will just rip it out.

It makes one wonder how much loss Ford and the other OEM's see from all those lots of unfinished vehicles they have had parked everywhere the past few years. You hear of whole car thefts from plants routinely around here, but I have to believe there's people lifting parts too. All those cars in poorly secured lots with taillights, airbags, catalytic converters, ect waiting for some unscrupulous person to make off with.

There are three other rangers in my neighborhood. I just need to make the others easier targets. Sad but true unfortunately

So it doesn't matter if the truck is locked or not? They can force the tailgate open with a punch through tool around the handle to gain access to the required bolts for the lights? Hard to tell from the image shown above, but regardless it sucks a big one.

I wonder if there is just a larger than local market for it on ebay and other second hand sales spots due to increasingly regular thefts. For eample If mine were stolen & I didn't wanna go through insurance I'd hit up ebay where I'd likely be purchasing some one else's stolen lights from Mr. Thiefy McDick or an intermediary? Regardless screw some thieves trying to make a quick buck. Huge pain in the ass and hardly a victimless crime.
