When I was searching for mine, I was surprised at the lack of SuperCabs on dealer lots.
Mine was brought in from two states away.

The reality is that the crew cab pickup has become the new SUV, and are far more popular than straight pickups.

If you need the longer bed and no passengers in the back seat, then the supercab is the way to go. I have had mine for over a year and don't ever regret getting the supercab. As a bonus, my 700 ATV fits in the back with no problem
What? My yamaha 400 big bear is too wide and too long for the ranger bed. Front tires would have to ride up on the fender wells.

For the hell of it, I visited Ford's website to build and price a 2024 Ranger, it seems as though the S/Cab has gone the way of the Unicorn...
Guess there won't be a "Ford In My Future" anytime soon, at least not a Ranger (and most definitely not a Maverick)!

WTF! ?
From your location it almost doesn't matter the distance... so you could consider a ROW Ranger. There is even a proper gearshift available. ?
and yes I know, tax, import, … hassle… BUT there are S/Cab Ranger on earth!

Wow I had to check, they really killed it! What a bunch of jackasses at Ford.

So now they've got two "small" trucks that only come in 4 door and if you want a normal sized bed, like the kind that came on a 1990 Ranger, you need to buy the F150. Oh and not to mention the 2024 Ranger and Maverick have the same front end now (ugly).

I can't confirm anything, but I have a strong suspicion that a 6G SuperCab and possibly a SuperCrew w/6'bed may be coming for the 2025 MY. Both were seen testing in the Dearborn area in 2022. It may be the reason that both Ranger and Bronco have had such low production this late after the strike, as MI Assembly Plant (MAP) tools up for the addition of these models. Just my guess.

The Nissan Frontier and the Tacoma have SCabs and SCrew/6'box models out now.

Entirely possible, however I question the financial wisdom on Ford's part in retooling to produce a S/Cab on an existing platform already in production, it seems like a major "faux pas" on their marketing research program.

Not that I doubt you, but it does seem odd that Ford would purposely omit such a model in their lineup, especially when you consider that Nissan and Toyota have retained such a design of their recent restyling of their trucks.

I digress, however that the ratio of S/Crews vs. S/Cabs I've seen on the road is probably 10:1, with the S/Cab being the darling of certain businesses.

I myself chose a S/Cab in my 2020 Lariat for several reasons, I don't need 4 conventional doors, the bed length was important to me and the profile of the truck looks more "sporty", if you will.

We may never know Ford's logic in such an omission, just like when they totally abandoned the Ranger in 2011 for the domestic market...baffling.

There IS a disadvantage, but only if you are tall. The drivers seat goes back farther in a CrewCab…ie: more legroom. I tried them both “on for size“ This sealed the deal for me. CrewCab.

in 2010 when Ford was hemorrhaging cash, they realized some plants needed to be shut down and other models pushed back. Ranger was easy; they were built at Twin City Assembly (second oldest plant in the inventory), and Edison NJ, which had its own inefficiencies. Focus was built at MAP at the time, and still popular. There was no place to move Ranger. As early as 2015, Ideas were rolling around to bring back the Bronco. Also, Australia production was to cease and move to Thailand. Plans were finalized to ship the tooling to MAP, and build the 5G ranger and a Bronco In 2018. Tthe Focus was discontinued in NA, freeing up a plant for the two.
As far as other configurations for Ranger, It may be a case for the old Buck Rodgers (I think) song:
"I was looking back to see,
If you were looking back to see
If I was looking back to see
If you were looking back at me"

A few things come to mind:Ford was going all in on EV in 2022, GM much the same.
  • I think that both of their espionage departments surmised that neither was going to offer nothing but SuperCrew/5' box initially. On Ford's part, that meant more funds for Blue Oval City etc.
  • Ford also laid off 8,000 salaried workers at that time, many of which were engineers, so fewer people to do ICE production engineering
  • The T6 modular frame can have different sections to accommodate I-4s and V6s, and different lengths for 2dr & 4dr Broncos, and presumably SuperCab & SuperCrew/6'box.
  • Ford certainly is watching the take rate of Frontier's and Tacoma's different configurations.
  • Ranger sales are dead last in midsize trucks in NA, due to apathy mostly. Maybe at current volumes they can't make money on other configurations at this time.

In and around the Boston area that I live I would venture a guess that the ratio of crew cabs to super cabs is 10+:1 in favor of the crew cab. Also, the super cabs I do see tend to be lower trim levels which would suggest that the motivation to buy a super cab is more motivated by price than the extra foot of bed length. I am quite sure that the bean counters decided that there is not enough return on the investment to bother with the super cab in the US. Likely the same reason for not offering a 6' bed with the crew cab.

FWIW, I have owned 6 trucks over the past 50 years. Four of them had 6.5' or 6' beds and two have had 5' beds. Not once have I had an occasion to wish I had a longer bed than the 5 footer in my last two. BUT, I don't think I could go back to a regular bed or super cab after having a pickup with 4 full doors.
