Tell me about your winch install

Looking for ideas on installing a winch on my 2022 Ranger Lariat Tremor. I really want to keep the Adaptive Cruise Control and lane keeping. I've heard that there is a winch tray add on that keeps the factory bumper intact. Ideas?

The ARB bumper allows for the ACC, I believe. I installed the AFN bumper and it wasn't too bad. Took a long time, but we were learning along the way. The plate is from 589 Fab. I ordered one, waited 4 months, where they blew past 2 deadlines (theirs, now mine) and then gave me attitude when I asked for an update (the owner actually threw attitude my way when I asked for an update), so I cancelled my order. I know a lot of people have had good luck, but I did not. Happier with a bumper anyways, so it worked.

If you want to put your winch on a cradle so you can use it front or rear user @HeavyDuty makes a really nice 2" front reciever. It will require relocation of the ACC sensor, but that can be done with a relocation bracket.

This is my plan. I've collected the reciever and bracket but have not yet had time to install. I've yet to get my winch and cradle but I believe @RedlandRanger has the entire setup up and running.

Not for everybody but I appreciate the versatility of this setup. Once I get it all done I can winch from the front OR rear of my Ranger OR my YJ. All with only purchasing 1 winch. 4 for 1 is a good deal.

Yes, I installed @Heavy Duty's front receiver bracket which is REALLY well done. I didn't run wires to the front, as I have a long cable attached to my winch so I can run it to the connector on the battery for either front or rear use. Thankfully, I haven't needed it yet, but I'm all set - it is a really nice setup and very flexible.

Although I like the idea, at least 1/3 of the times I needed my winch, there was no chance of getting one mounted to a bumper hitch, without big shoveling, and maybe not even then. Our friend that went that route, barely ever used his. When he got stuck, one of us hooked him up, just to save time.

I'm not saying there isn't a use depending on what type of wheeling you do, but they do have drawbacks, and mudding is a big one. Even if you can access the receiver, the extra time and difficulty of doing it blind under the water, also sucks.

Truly not trying to pee in your corn flakes, just sharing for the OP.

For me none of those would matter - I don't do real wheeling typically - I've gotten stuck twice now in the snow while hiking in shoulder seasons and I just decided I was tired of using a comealong or just a shovel (or both) to get me out. That is why I said I hope I never need to use it, but if I do, I'm covered. I also have 3 snatch blocks so I should be able to use it either end if needed and pull me wherever I need to be.

For me none of those would matter - I don't do real wheeling typically - I've gotten stuck twice now in the snow while hiking in shoulder seasons and I just decided I was tired of using a comealong or just a shovel (or both) to get me out. That is why I said I hope I never need to use it, but if I do, I'm covered. I also have 3 snatch blocks so I should be able to use it either end if needed and pull me wherever I need to be.

If you are hoping to ever do a reverse winch, I highly recommend you get at least a 100' winch line extension. I carry a 100 and a 50, mostly for that potential nightmare. At most you probably have 80' of usable winch line on the spool, which essentially requires a good tree within ~10 feet of the front bumper, and 2 good trees within ~10 feet of the rear bumper. It's doable, but a true PITA. I also carry a Baileys 6,000 lb synthetic cable puller with 35' line.

I'll be a happy man if I never have to reverse winch, or use that puller ever again.

Seriously, I don't intend to get myself into any situation that would require extreme winching (reverse winching being one of those). Both scenarios that I got myself into were relatively easy to get out of (if I had a winch). Now that I can put the winch on either the front or back as needed, it should make extracting myself pretty easy if I ever need it. Knowing my luck though, now that I've spent the money I'll never need it.

I have a Superwinch SX10 synthetic rope mounted behind the stock bumper with the 589Fab hidden winch mount. Wired to a Warn power interrupt kit that is wired to one of my upfitter switches. ACC relocated with the Cali Raised Off-road bracket. Took me a few days of off and on working to get installed in my garage but pretty happy with result.

Do not mess with the radar sensor it is very sensitive and the wiring is notoriously fragile as others here have learned the hard way when they try to relocate the emitter, if you need a winch honestly I'd do a hitch mounted one, can take it off when you don't need it keep it safer and you keep the fancy electronics intact, and though others will swear differently the fact is the radar is meant to be mounted dead center by moving it to the side and changing its position radically you will be screwing up the readings it gets as it is specifically calibrated to be right there and bases its readings and inputs on being in the middle
