Installed my Ford swing out case. Very simple, sort of.

For those of you that get the Ford brand case from your dealer, be aware the hardware COMES with all the appropriate bolts needed to install even if you don't have the middle tie downs/bolts. I bought 2 tie downs with this so that I could have a complete set of tie downs and so that I'd have enough bolts. Parts dept. at dealer didn't show the box coming with those two bolts needed to secure toward the middle of the truck.

What the kit did NOT come with is the pivot lock. Interestingly enough, the parts list with the kit only mentioned the brackets and bolts, but not that pivot lock. Only realized it was missing when I got to that step in the installation process.

If y'all have any experience or insights into this, I would be proud to hear it.

some of yall my age or older, im sure remember when step side beds with tail gate chains and latch systems were a thing. i would have loved a damper on one of those lol. that was back when a tail gate could hold a fair amount of weight. dont know how the one below stayed on. esp with my ex and sister on it at one time.

I installed 4 more tie-downs in the box. I used a tap to clean the bed liner out, and had to elongate a hole on each of the top two at the front. I don't know what those two holes are for, but about 1/4" longer than the tie down. Quick buzz with the dremel and they fit perfect.

I've wanted to try it for a few months since I noticed the hole pattern looked similar, but hadn't acquired new tie-downs yet. @HeavyDuty posted that he did it, and it inspired me to get it done. I was going to make my own from 1/4"x 3/4" flat bar, because I refuse to pay Ford's fuk you tax, on the OEM pieces. The dealer price on 4 bars/8 bolts is over $330 CDN for maybe $30 worth of product, including the machining. Sickening.

I'll be adding something near the top at the back as well. I haven't decided exactly what or where, maybe just a single eye-bolt on the angled surface in the black circle, or on the same surface above the lower rear tie-down. Just strong enough to secure tall gas cans from tipping on corners, nothing too extreme.

I think they may be M6, they are smaller than the M8s for the tie downs. I'm not positive on the sizes, I had ordered M6 eyelets for the missing tie downs but the were too small and they seemed to fit those three holes in that rear tailgate pillar. I thought they may get in the way.

Let us know what you do, you do some neat things.
