No notice from dealer that this is happening (I blame my salesperson / order taker and not the dealership as this dealership is very well regarded here), but I'm wondering if the $500 credit is sufficient.

Are there any other Ford cars / trucks where LED headlights can be added as an option, and if so what is the option priced at? When I custom ordered my Mini Cooper years ago, LED headlights were a $1000 option.

Or, should we press Ford to offer us a "go to the dealer after delivery and have the headlight assembly be swapped out for $500 installed" option when more LED assemblies are available?

I'd be more unhappy about the no choice delete by Ford (other than walking) if this vehicle will see very little use - my current truck is 21 years old and only sees about 3000 miles a year if that. The Ranger is replacing it so I can tow a horse trailer in a CA fire emergency - the horse that I do not have yet and will be gotten as part of the "happy wife, happy life" program ;)

Hell no, a good aftermarket LED headlight runs anywhere from $1200-1500 and that would be without installation costs. I'd ask for more IMO or tell them to install OEM LED headlights at a later date for free.

That’s the tough one with credits. The manufacturer is taking the difference between the regular light components and the led components and (supposedly) giving you the difference. No way you could upgrade at that price later. They also will not allow you to trade in your non-LED components for any discount consideration should you want to “upgrade” later. Maybe a call to the parts dept to get all pricing and do the math on the difference is needed.

Now, do you have any bargaining room for that credit value? Do you walk on the deal? Did you really care about LED lighting, or is the reduction in price a pleasant surprise?

Not a Lariat owner but IMO they should give you the option of having the LED added later for the $500 credit they gave you when supplies become available. To me the LED is what makes the Lariat the Lariat. Now you're stuck doing drop in LEDs or spending 1200 + for some LED housing

Really the LED should've been standard on the XLT and Lariat or at least an add on option for the XLT

I would not want any Ford promises for the future. Just look at the history of Bronco promises about reservations, and allocations to dealers and how MSRP will be honored to the customer. Don’t even get into the it’s not Ford it’s the dealers that add a markup.

LEDs are the way to go and $500 is not even close to the replacement cost. And it’s not always a simple swap out of factory wiring that was not for LED from the start.

I wouldn't call it a reduction if you really want LED because you're going to spend that $500 credit plus $1000 more on aftermarket LED and labor cost if you don't want to tear the whole front end of your truck down.

I guess it depends on your idea of "good" aftermarket LED headlight housings. You can get some AlphaRex LEDs for $850, and I'd consider them to be good. The labor of having them installed by someone would be a lot I'd imagine, if you didn't want to do it yourself. I installed a set myself this past weekend in my 2019 XLT and it took a few hours from start to finish, including some hiccups along the way. But I understand that not everyone has ability (time, skill, tools, etc.) to it themselves.

Either way, I would agree that $500 is not enough to compensate for removing LED headlights.

You were not wrong. until this came up all Lariats did come with LED headlights. Evidently supply chain issues is causing delays so they are delivering some with halogen headlights to get them out the door. unfortunately it looks like they are not giving the buyers and option.

Just looking up the 2020 parts catalog between XLT and Lariat on Tasca Parts,

Lariat LED Headlight assembly (KB3Z-13008-A, KB3Z-13008-C) $1095 Ea.
XLT Headlight Assembly (KB3Z-13008-K, KB3Z-13008-M) $432.43 Ea.

Looks like a $1325.14 difference for the parts alone. Is Ford leaving the LED Fog lights, or are those changing too?

No way I would accept a $500 credit. The main reason I spent the extra money for a Lariat trimmed Ranger is for the superior lighting.
I tried ordering a 2022 Tremor with Lariat trim at the end of march.
The day after the order was placed I was told by dealership that no more Tremor build orders were being accepted for production.
I could have been in the same position as OP if my order went through.
If I was told that I can't get the lighting as a Lariat with LED I would cancel and wait for a G6.
As it turned out I purchased the dealership Tremor with Lariat package I had test driven.
Was I given a line of bull from the dealership that no more Tremor orders accepted by Ford? Maybe. But after reading this topic of no LED if I had been able to order, I'm happy.
I got the truck I wanted except it has spray in bed liner, don't like that stuff, sold to me at a 2k discount.

i was thinking the same that the led head lights were part of the lariat package. maybe they were and ford deleted that too like they did the other list of stuff from the rangers. Im getting really annoyed with ford for doing that and not adjusting the msrp lower to match the removals. they are slowly making me want to buy another brand in 30k miles... the ugly nissian frontier is looking better every time ford annoys me lol.

I'm kind of a special use case -- the truck isn't going to see a lot of use. Have a large property where I need a truck with more towing capability (the to be bought horse trailer) and a larger bed than my current 2001 Explorer Sport Trac with all of 71,800 miles.

So, while I would prefer the LEDs, I'm not going to go cancel my order BUT I do think the delete credit is insufficient, hence starting this thread. I am going to reach out to Ford consumer relations and see if there's some goodwill negotiation that can be done.
