With an XLT, you need to unlock with the key fob unlock button or the mechanical key, no proximity unlock. I believe Steve is referring to the operation of the Lariat. I agree with him that a read of the owner's manual would be a good idea.
I spend time off and on in New England...Check out Ira Ford in Auburn MA. They were offering orders for $500 over invoice earlier this year on 5G Ranger orders (at the time, about $1200 below MSRP for a 4wd Lariat Super Crew). You may want to contact them and see what they say.
I have the Ford branded bed extender, I think AMP Research makes it. It has always worked well, no problem with the tailgate catches. From your pics, it looks like the tailgate catch piece is the incorrect one. Here are some pics and measurements from mine. Dave's pics look close to mine...
Excellent job Kyle! Looks like the factory install. I believe that many are intimidated by the number of steps in the instructions, but it’s really easier than the instructions make it look. Glad it worked out for you.
As already stated by Bill and Jed, the bumper hitch height is generally too high for any practical towing, and the capacity is limited to 3500 lbs, versus 7500 lbs for Drawtite or the factory hitch.
Additional benefits for the factory hitch are more ground clearance if you go off road, and...
Correct. The Bracket is actually the bumper frame integrated with the tow hitch. The existing step pad and bumper ends are transferred from the existing non-tow bumper bracket.
The non-tow package bumper uses 2 bolts on each side to secure the bumper to the chassis, while the OEM tow package bumper uses 3 bolts on each side to secure it to the chassis. The non-tow bumper covers the center bolt hole, only using the outer 2 bolt holes on each side. Those outer 2 holes...
Tow hitch accessory is the correct one. There are only 2 different OEM bumpers; one with the receiver/hitch and one without. Doesn't matter which trim/package you may have.
For wiring, I used the OEM 7/4 pin connector and the wiring harness to connect it. Part numbers were:
FU5Z-14489-A...
Yes. The installation instructions for the accessory tow package are the instructions that were posted. The actual install is not too bad. The 7 pin harness and connector are not included, and you’ll need those as well if you’re towing anything that requires a brake controller.
Just looking up the 2020 parts catalog between XLT and Lariat on Tasca Parts,
Lariat LED Headlight assembly (KB3Z-13008-A, KB3Z-13008-C) $1095 Ea.
XLT Headlight Assembly (KB3Z-13008-K, KB3Z-13008-M) $432.43 Ea.
Looks like a $1325.14 difference for the parts alone. Is Ford leaving the LED...
Mark-
Glad you're OK...The truck can be fixed or replaced. It always shakes you up for a while when something like that happens. Insurance should cover it, hopefully the repairs go quickly. Hang in there!
Thank you Tracy! Last week, a guy at the gas station (driving an SUV) had to come over and ask what color my Ranger was...and he drove by as he was leaving and asked "Saber? Is that right?, I really like that color!". It made me smile, I'm lovin' it!
Neil-
This sucks...glad you're OK. Looks like the truck is still drivable, which is a plus. Hopefully this gets fixed quickly, but with all the backorder parts from Ford these days, it may take some time. I'm sure it will shorter than the wait for a new one! Hang in there.
