Peppermint oil, dose off a cotton balls and some metal container magnet in the cab or engine bay. Rodents don't like Peppermint oil smell.
This is good, I have cotton balls zip-tied around the engine bay and a peppermint extract dropper. Mice like to nest in the cabin filter too but put very little extract there or you will be choking everywhere you drive.

I also wrapped as much of the wiring as I could in Honda's rodent tape. It's electrical tape with chili pepper in it. The stock wire wrap is made with soy now so it attracts way more mice then a pre-2000ish vehicle and the rodent tape was Honda's fix for that. Every other manufacturer denied it was a problem even though they all use soy tape now.

I was quoting Bill Murry in caddy shack when he was out in homemade camo with 2 6 packs and a high powered rifle with a flashlight taped to it.....

I may check out those rodent light boxes but they're probably expensive since they advertise on Motor Trent TV

I read to try Irish spring soap. Put a bar or half a bar in a piece of pantyhose an tie it somewhere inside the engine bay.
I cut bars in 1/2, one half in the box another in a plastic bag and put them in various places in my boat and car when they are stored for the winter. Never a problem and I know there are mice in the building where I store them as we always get a few in traps.
In the spring they still have have a scent to them and I use them up through the summer.
A mesh bag or cheese cloth would also work for the engine bay and keep it smelling fresh!

Hi Langley,

Agreed...My pest control person tracked my mouse problem to our A hole neighbor's house where they live in his bar-b-que. So Ahole opens up his grill to the sunlight and thinks it fixed the problem...NOT! So I bought a LED party light array that flashes a super bright light and installed in behind my outdoor grill. Rodents do not like the flashing bright light and have moved back over his wall. He is pissed by the light and I politely ignored him except for a Deal With It comment and get a professional to rid your place of rodents instead of using your money on the gambling tables of Las Vegas. He is a financial advisor with a gambling problem...Go figure....

This party light is also sold for about double the price on Amazon as a rodent light... I elected to buy the party light....It works!

Best,
Phil
Clearly, mice are not "party animals"!

I have the same exact problem whenever I park in the field at my property. They get into the cab and eat napkins, then build a nest under the battery. I've caught 2 with traps in the cab so far.

So after reading more of the replies I decided to open up the air filter behind the glove box. And yep, they got in there too. They ate a hole through the filter and pulled in all the napkins I was missing. Just spent about an hour cleaning everything out.

Funny how it's always the neighbors. Our neighbors never took care of anything and the rats were living in the trees. We had moved in 3 years ago and the trees were on their side of the fence. Rats got in my truck and chewed up some wire insulation thankfully not too bad. Then got into the air box making my AC smell horrible. I had the property surveyed and found the neighbors actually encroaching on our property and the trees were technically ours. Cut every damn one of them down, put out poison and traps, caught 12 rats in a week and then never saw them again. I still put out the poison in case they come back. Had the ac deodorized, taped up the wire. Those little bastards week havoc. My neighbor was pissed about the trees and moved out, lol. Now he rents out to some other folks.

I'll released some rat snake in there. I saw a mouse or baby gopher went under my daughter's car last week and it came out on the other side after it smells the peppermint oil. I went and got the .50 cal co2 and chase that bastard. The birds probably took care of his caucuses the next day.

I made some custom screens out of 1/4" galvanized fence and used Lexel caulking to attach them to the air intake openings. That was my project the second day after bringing the truck home.

Had one die in my truck, had to take to the dealer to take everything apart to find the bastard. Now have screen over air inlet.

How long ago did you do that? Any problems since? Did you just cover those 2 rectangle holes on the passenger side under the windshield cowl?

Popped the hood to admire my complimentary struts :) and some little bastard has been chewing away at it. Checked all the wiring and it seems okay, truck runs fine. My 10,000 mile service is coming up soon, anything I should ask for/request/point out?

Peppermint Oil needs to become your best friend. Spray down the engine compartment once a week for several months. Get some outdoor traps (I suggest glue traps/be careful of poisons especially if you have pets). Open up your air box and check cabin filter box.....they like to nest inside those.
