Is it a mistake to not take the 4WD option?

Bought my first truck in 78, 4 wheel drive Blazer. Never even considered a 2 wheel drive truck. Since then it has been nothing but 4 wheel drive trucks. I do not off road and have no desire to do so. It does snow here a half dozen times a year. The 4 wheel drive option I choose isn't because I can't drive in the snow, it's because a good percentage of the driving population it this state cannot. It's a good feeling to press the button and put some space between me and the driving challenged.

Well, the difference price wise was a 4x4 XLT or 4x2 Lariat. I’ll use the upgraded interior and accessories a lot more than the mileage reducing 4x4 stuff!

Half dozen??? You are lucky.

I live in the snow belt in NE Ohio. A bad snow is feet, not inches. And living in a small town...roads dont get cleared for awhile. 2wd is not an option to even think of getting to work.

You're right, after 50years without it, I didn't have to think about it, I just bought it !
One plus:clap: is that 2WD is not really an option... Its Standard!;)

No snow and my Ranger won't even be on a dirt road.

Most folks that buy trucks in America don't even use the bed, much less four wheel drive. That said, it's like a gun; I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it. I live in the South where it rains a lot and our dirt is mostly red clay. Wet red clay is slippery as shit. Four wheel drive is super useful down here if you ever intend to do anything besides driving on pavement.

Exactly. Like you said, "I'd rather have it and not use it..." however, I do use mine several times a month...every month year round.

It is better to have and not need than to need and not have
Ahh yes! The "hoarder's motto":giggle:
Better get a BIG trailer if you want to carry around everything you don't need!:whew:
Tough enough just trying to carry the stuff you do need!:fingerscrossed:
Unless you're Macgyver,o_O then all you need is a paperclip and some duct tape!
There are now more than fifty new cars which apparently don't need no stinkin' spare.

If you want or need it... Have it,
If you don't ... don't.

So if you're prepared then you should know what your gonna need and not take extraneous stuff in your back pack.
Prepared means cut ahead of time or knowing what you'll need before you set out.
You need 4WD drive sometimes so you carry around an extra several hundred pounds of "needed" equipment.
I don't need 4WD so I don't need the extra burden.
The weight difference alone between my truck and an FX4 4DR is about the same as carrying an old Small Block V8 around in the box.
Love the the fact that 4doors and 4WD and FX4 packages are available and the best on the market.
I would have them if I had needed them,...
heck, I would have them if I wanted them, but I just don't... either.
This does not mean that I am less prepared for the contingencies I am likely to encounter.

Normally I buy 4x4 with 70,000 miles on them. It is the best bargain on trucks. I look for a 4x4 owned by someone who never used it offroad. lots of people do that. I got the bug this time and didnt want to wait.

May 21st Black Hills, SD. This is why I have a 4x4. I'm happy to report this thing does great in snow!
I'd be packing 4x4 if I lived in that as well! But here at 50ft above sea level on sandbar Florida it's not necessary! Rear locker for added traction when needed!
