For what you are looking for I would actually recommend the Firestone Destination XT. Now do understand thay even with it being an LT tire with a load range E the tire is comfortable. I already have a nice detailed review with both on and OffRoad. Read the review and look into the size that will fit without modifications(assuming you arent lifting or leveling)

Ive had Michelin Defenders on my Ranger for about 9 months and they are a huge improvement over the stock Bridgestone OEM tires.

100% would recommend & definitely proud to give my business to Discount Tire. Winning combo.

i was going to say michelin ltx ms but others beat me to it. honestly best on road tires I have ever had. Ive used them on 3 different trucks and loved every set. yes they are not cheap but worth every dollar. good wet and dry traction predictable safe handling and tough. one set in load e lasted me 80k miles! they still had enough tread to pass state inspection when i removed them a put them on trailer spare duty. something also really good but a bit less money would be the cooper discoverer ht. Made in usa and decent price for the quality.

My choice was the Michelin Defender LTX. the main reason is simply the rating on the tire. It is 800AA. Fact is, they're the best rated light truck tires you can buy, without the need to replace the standard (17"X8") rims.

One of the issues you will come up against when you go past Ford's Performance package, is severe tire slippage. Or should I say squeal and spin! And let's face facts, OEM tires are exactly that—$20 per tire skins.

On the other hand, the Bridgestone Defender IS NOT an inexpensive tire (255 65R17), at nearly $1,000 for a set of four installed and balanced. In my case, they knocked off a 1/4 second better 0-60 time (2WD). It pays to remember, performance isn't cheap!

I used to work in a tire shop for years a little over 20 years ago, and while I know the market changes over time, from my experience there if I were looking for an on-road truck tire the Michelins would be one of the first I would look at. Looking at the current specs I would likely go with that Defender LTX. In the 18" size on my truck, it has the same speed rating and load compacity as the Hankooks my truck came with.

Thanks for the link. I read the entire thread.
I'd prefer to stay away from an LT tire, as I do not go off roading. Just dirt roads, and I would prefer to keep weight down to add to MPG that took a hit with leveling kit.

I appreciate and take into consideration all the Michelin input. I'm just trying to determine if they are worth the extra cash over the LE3's.

Are the people getting over 60k on their tires have a level kit installed? I wasn't happy about alignment issues from day 1, camber I think was off and was told by dealer and an alignment shop, that edge wear that severe is normal with a level kit. My AWD vehicle I drove 90k and still had useable tread left when I gave to wife. Bought her new tires and she destroyed in 40k. sheesh...

Same here...my previous Falken set was great too but I think the Cooper's wear a bit better...very quiet at highway speeds while maintaining the an aggressive tread pattern that works OR and looks right on a truck...AND the price was right!

Sid, I've been eyeing these Coopers as replacements when the Hankooks go. Are they pretty quiet on the highway? Any noticeable drop in fuel economy? Are they good in the rain?
Always wanted the Wildpeaks, but the secret's out they're good tires and their not inexpensive anymore.

As long as you dont go with a really big size(more than 32 inch tires) weight wont be an issue with the XT's. They are lighter than other tires in the same load range. Thay will help with the overall fuel usage. If you are going to habe to deal with dirt road where Mud and Snow can be a problem then I still suggest the XT's. You could go with the AT2 but its a light duty All Terrain. The LE3 is a great street tire but not great for OffRoad conditions. If you have to deal with Mud and Snow i would not suggest the LE3.

I researched this quite a bit a short while back as far as road noise and I believe the cooper's were at the top (top good , not top bad) , and my next tire , but sold truck and got the Ranger and Hankooked... these Are pretty road quite also , but nobody seems to like them ?
