Here that first picture is usually refereed to as a fire service road.
This is a fire service road.

That first pic looks like a residential neighborhood.

But RP has a point.

"Trail Rated" lost it's meaning well before they slapped in on a lifted Fiat 500, or Renegade.

My BIL is finishing up an LS swap on his CJ-7.

Powerfull Jeeps can be a thing, and can be fun.

The LSX Willie's looks like a hoot!

That being said, the look of that concept is tough!

Much better looking than current Jeeps, sorry Dave.
Oh I agree 100% that Magneto looks bad ass! It'll be interesting to see what the final production ones look like but they're on the right track. :like:

love the look and the concept....but does anyone really want to accelerate that fast in a Jeep?
seems like a death wish to me.

Some jeep orgs rate trails, this one on a 1 to 5 scale :

https://www.jeeptheusa.com/difficulty-ratings.html

A few excerpts I found interesting :

" Body damage, mechanical breakdown, and/or rollover probable. Will be a challenge to many wallets.

Winches and spare parts required. Spare fluids and welding capabilities recommended. "

Wonder how many off roaders on this forum have on-board "welding capabilities" That could an advantage an off roader like the magneto has - ample battery power for an arc welder.

Most trail welds I've seen are not done with an arc welder. They're done with batteries in series.

2 or 3 batteries, a stick, and jumper cables are all you need.

But yes, due to cost of the rides there are a lot of places I'd take my Jeep that I'd never take my Ranger.

Have you been up the Holy Cross City trail ? maybe 15 yrs back was with a friend who tried it with his Jeep Wrangler and had to turn back when it got too hairy. Been maybe 10 yrs since I've been to that Homestake Reservoir area, it was really crowded , dusty and noisey. Some very rugged trails in the HC wilderness.

How about a Smart Car for an off roader?
It's parked next to a BMW 2002 gasser.
This was cars and coffee this morning.

have to think the mods done to that thing might exceed the purchase price and it looks like it could easily tip over. I'd want to put a roof top tent up there as well.

It's is a custom built mud racer that they draped Smart car sheet metal over. It is powered by a small block Chevy in the rear.

todays day and age, when the electric grid goes down, your gas powered car is dead in the water at some point too (lucky you if you had a full tank)....gas pumps wont work, and your ability to pay is gone.
Then your ability to troll the internet goes away too. Who would have thought....

True but when a storm is coming (there's usually plenty of warning) I can fill up several gas cans and store them. I can't do that with electricity unless I have an elaborate battery storage system costing thousands. If/when the grid goes down it's sometimes out for day after bad storms. We had a nasty one back east in 2011 and it knocked out power in some areas for weeks. At least with a full tank of gas and an extra 20 gal of gas I could ride it out easily. You're stuck when your EV goes dead. Sure you could use a generator but that takes gas. lol
