What’s the procedure for using 4 wheel drive during turns in these Rangers? I’ve only being using it on straight aways.

Straight from the Owners Manual

Note: Do not use 4H or 4L mode on dry, hard surfaced roads. Doing so can produce excessive noise, increase tire wear and may damage drive components. 4H or 4L mode is only intended for consistently slippery or loose surfaces. Use of 4L mode on these surfaces may produce some noise, such as occasional clunks, but should not damage drive components.

and

2H (4X2)
For general on-road driving, this mode provides optimal smoothness and fuel economy. Sends power to the rear wheels only.
Note: 2H may engage or disengage based on terrain mode selection. See Principle of Operation (page 161).

4H (4X4 HIGH)
Provides mechanically locked four-wheel drive power to both the front and rear wheels for use in off-road or winter conditions such as deep snow, sand or mud. This mode is not for use on dry pavement.
Note: 4H may engage or disengage based on terrain mode selection. See Principle of Operation (page 161).

4L (4X4 LOW)

Provides mechanically locked four-wheel drive power to both the front and rear wheels with additional gearing for increased torque multiplication. Intended only for off-road applications such as deep sand, steep grades, or pulling heavy objects.

Thanks but I was wondering about turning. Best I can tell, avoid turning at all in 4H or 4L. Slight turns in 4H possible if wheels can slip. My truck doesn’t have rear locker, I imagine that would be better for making turns because driver can turn the unlocked front wheels, but even then the locked rear wheels should able to slip if friction uneven side to side.

Of course you can turn on appropriately slippery surfaces. The warning against turning applies only to high-traction surfaces. The rear locker can be very hazardous on icy roads, because both wheels can lose traction at the same time. It's pretty easy for the back end to pass the front, and send you straight off the road.

A little trip to the cottage to see what the snow load is like and to check on a 40 ft cedar tree my neighbour told me about that snapped halfway up. It missed his cottage but I guess he wants it off his lawn. There’s also a 20’ spruce that fell across our creek. True North’s going to have to pull those out into a clearing where I can get at them with a chainsaw - free campfire wood for the summer! ? ? ? ? ?

There’s nothing quite like a trustworthy vehicle when you’re driving on snow-covered roads or when drifting snow is piling up on a two-lane. Total confidence and comfort.

Love this truck. ?

Darn right Steve - we have large front and rear porch overhangs with barely any pitch - it’s also a Cape Cod with six dormer windows on the second level - snow gets trapped everywhere - on top of that, it’s in a snow belt. ? With a structure that was built in 1932, you really need to be on top of it.

Ahhhhh, life in the Kootenays - one of my favourite Scabs out there Steve - okay, maybe my favourite. ? My neighbour just headed out to Fernie (don’t go all East/West on me) and I almost told him to take my truck just so he could do it up right, but he’s not coming back until March. ?
Yeah we've been getting a record breaking amount of snowfall this year, cant drive around town without seeing at least one transport truck or car struck in a snowbank or ditch. Ive used my dynamic recovery rope 4 times to pull people out in the last 2 weeks. I just keep it and the shackles on the back seat ready to go now. The snow really is the most fun time to drive these trucks!

you can turn in 4. you may hear/feel the tires slip. if you don't hear/feel them slip and just hear one loud bang followed by grinding, then you've got a problem.

The Ranger is a beast in the snow.
Drove up to 9.5k elevation mountain town in a snow storm and was safe.
I was also in 4H for 3 days straight while it was snowing.
Went snow wheeling and was one of the few not to get stuck on the trail.
I did turn into a neighborhood too hot and got stuck on a snow bank.

Hopefully, tomorrow I will get to post a pic of ‘Ol Butterscotch in the snow. Or, well, in the flurries! Still counts though (to me anyway);)
