So, driving the truck in Drive could possibly cause problems???
I mean, anything you do could "possibly" cause problems. Right?!

But that's not what I said, is it?

What I said was lugging the engine could possibly cause problems. And that lugging is more likely to occur in D than any other mode.

These aren't opinions. They are facts.

Who said anything about idling in park??? I'm talking 13-1500 rpm in fourth or fifth, the thing is not ready to go, it needs to downshift and from what I've read about LSPI I don't want it happening to my truck.

It's not a road bike, it's a truck. ????

But I have to wonder if you have ever found anything that the omnipotent Ford engineers can't do? You strike me as the biggest Ford Fanboi I have ever come across.
1]The idling in park comment was just to illustrate that it is primarily load, not RPM which could cause lugging.

2] That second comment would elicit guffaws from anyone who knows me!:giggle:
I have owned vehicles of every make, maybe some you have never even seen.
I am partial to Ford but I have almost never left one unmodified, and I just don't buy their mistakes.

3] I am sorry that you find my position frustrating, but it is more a lack of understanding than a difference of opinion. ;)

4] The Road Bike comment was to illustrate an understanding of what "lugging" really is, and how the judicious use of gearing can accommodate various riders.
I have an RB1 , but I almost never see 54/13 (too much lugging at my age and for my wattage)
So I now mostly ride a Trek Sport Carbon 4.
( I am Partial to Trek, but I own Canondale, DiamondBack, Dahon, Bridgestone and others.)

5] I don't think "LSPI" is a problem on a stock tune.

Very nice

The wife wants to bring the granchild with us, we think a second will be on the way
so I'm looking at:
Flagstaff E-Pro

I think the paper said 20-23 mpg, so when I'm doing 18 with a light foot, I'm not happy.
I drove in S in the mountains, was perfect, I need to try T now.

Ok, back to whatever gents..... ?
Spent a week in the Colorado spring area. Tow mode worked awesome in the mountains. Sport did well too, just to many rpms to my liking. And regular drive mode was a dog, Garbage. Have to meet cafe standards somehow. Thats a rant for another thread

Not sure what you mean by "over protective"

But yes, a tune will happen at some point.
I meant that the truck could carry a Scamp13 on the box with 4 more of them towed behind and still be within its tow rating, yet with my Scamp13 it still mostly stays out of 10th gear in TowHaul mode when it just ain't necessary.

Yea
You should not give mechanical advice. Lugging is bad for any engine. Let alone a small displacement turbo engine.

Your point has merit. But as always there is a point of diminishing returns.

The way I drive Tow gets me 1.5 mog better than D. But S tanks it all together.
Yea ok. I’ll be here watching for the blown, broken, or otherwise adversely affected-by-lugging 2.3s. Reality and “known info” don’t always line up.

Weird.

I hit 10th at about 65 in tow unloaded. Seems about perfect to me.

Well, at least we agree about load causing lugging, and I ain't much for riding DonorCycles because too many friends met an early grave from other peoples mistakes.

I would think LSPI can happen on a stock tune, if the conditions are met (Even in a Ford :sunglasses: ). I don't want it to happen to my little 2.3 EB so I will do what is known to help combat it, including letting the engine run a higher RPM as well as using top tier gas and synthetic oil designed to combat it.

"DonorCycles" is a term reserved for Motorcycles
Couches kill a whole lot more people than bicycles.
I'm not clear if you imply hostility and contempt or if I just infer it from your comment.
Certainly I have meant none.

It is laudable that you will take the best care you can to maintain your Ranger... I'll do the same...
I will continue to do what is known to result in the most longevity and reliable service, including
continuing to drive mostly in "D", using top tier gas (87 octane) and Motorcraft synthetic blend oil.
LSPI is not on my list of concerns.
This May marks the end of my regular warranty, after which I will cheerfully take responsibility for what happens to my Ranger.
Check back every 5 years to compare progress?
I did think you meant motorcycles lol now let's take care of these trucks and use them as we wish and hopefully they are still holding together in another 14 years.

?

They left the knock sensor out or this engine?

Why rely on the knock sensor to react to possibly dangerous conditions?

You didn't leave insurance off your truck did you? Why turn your lights on at night?
