I would agree that an 87 tune would benefit the truck, it fine tunes many operating parameters of the engine and transmission, The stock tune Ford puts in is entirely adequate; think of the difference in how a custom tailored suit fits compared to one off the rack. it just fits the body better. That's why I tune my vehicles.

I get that a tune is one of the most cost effective ways to get more performance. What would be the next 2-3 things after that (understanding the tunes need to be redone after other changes).
I see people talking about intake and exhaust, and throwing numbers around, but I have yet to see before and after dynos showing actual results. (and please don't get into a K&N filter debate here!) There is a performance Ford shop near me and he swears a bigger throttle body should be in the top 3 (he actually has a Ranger and did that to his).
Thoughts?

To my understanding the only time you would need to make severe changes to the tune after installing other parts would be if you installed a different turbocharger, replaces fuel injectors and messed with the high pressure fuel pump in order to run E85.

When doing simple things like a cat back exhaust or installing a cold air intake or even just an air filter(AEM for me) you do not need to change the tune. It would be the same idea if you installed an aftermarket intercooler. The computer will be able to adjust accordingly.

Also I do not believe there is a throttle body avalible for the ranger quite yet. Some people have installed one from BBK but somthing has to be done to either the tuning or the throttle body to make it work.

Over on the 2.3 Ecoboost Mustang forum there are a lot of folks building big HP 2.3 Ecoboost engines. The concensus is that a larger throttle body is of no benefit. Until you are well north of 400WHP. 400WHP is also the point that you are at the limits of the block.

Hmm, from what I could see in a quick search the Mustang 2.3 TB is 61mm and the Ranger is 58-59... are those the generally accepted numbers?

Do we have the closed deck bottom end?

The only Ecoboost engine that has a closed deck block is the 2.0 engine. The folks building engines in excess of 500WHP are using the 2.0 block and high strength rods.

It is my understanding that if the head lifts and the unsupported open deck cylinder moves the block will fail between cylinders 2 and 3 on the 2.3 block. That is why folks use the 2.0 block.

Anyone have an 87 stock tune vs an 87 Livernois tune dyno they could post?
I do own the Livernois tunes but have only dyno'd the towing tune and 91 octane tune. Currently I am running the Ford Performance tune. The Livernois tune made about the same horsepower but a little more torque than the Ford tune. My transmission likes the Ford tune way better and I really could not tell the difference.
(Sorry for the delayed response but I am hardly ever on the forum)
