First a foremost forgive my mechanical ignorance on this one if it’s normal. I was under my truck today doing a fluid film application before salt season gets here. I noticed what looked like a little chunk of metal missing near the rear driveshaft. Is this normal? Is that notch supposed to be like that? I have a 21 tremor.

I did a search but I don’t know the name of that part so came up empty.

thank you guys!

First of all that is the rear CV joint that the tremors have in place of the rear U-joint. Yes it does look like a normal machined notch.

Second FYI, I hope you were careful spraying around the top of the fuel tank. All lot of people doing the fluid film rust proofing have been having issues with the gas tank pressure sensor getting plugged with the fluid and throwing a code.

That notch makes it easier to get the driveshaft on/off.

Thanks for the heads up. I've having my '19 ranger undercoated with fluid film later this month. It's not a permanent hard film but an lube/oil/wax treatment. I'll have them avoid the gas tank area. Shouldn't matter since it's plastic anyway.

At least ask them as I've seen posts involving this item.
