FX4 Payload

Hi all. Considering buying a Ranger to replace my current tow vehicle. Key for me is the Ranger’s payload capacity compared to the competition. I am eyeing a used XLT SuperCrew with the FX4 package. Judging by the add-ons, payload seems to take a pretty good hit, or am I wrong? I’ve not been able to find any info on payload other than the Ford materials. Is there a resource I’m overlooking for trim level payload?

Almost every Ranger is different. You pretty much have to look at the sticker in the door jamb. The lowest I have seen on an FX4 is 1410 lbs.

There's a few different payload stickers in that thread, but yes, every truck is different. The 4wd models are going to be the lowest of the bunch though. I've seen a loaded Lariat F150 have some pretty dismal numbers. Something like 1400#, so if towing is what you want and payload is an important part of that, choose wisely.

Right. The 7,500lbs (with towing package) will suit me well. It’s the payload I’m wanting to make sure I’m grasping. My current vehicle has a payload of 1150. I’d like to be able to brings bikes and kayaks. But when I factor in kayak rack of some sort, WDH, and FX4 package, I may be pushing it (2 adults and 2 kids).

My 2020 Xlt fx4 Super Crew has 1476 lbs payload on the sticker. It’s black, black is lighter since it don’t have the heavy metallic in the paint ?

I think those are the base numbers before FX4. At least that’s my guess. If you take the curb weight from the GVWR, you get pretty close to those numbers on the website.

Just be aware that 7,500# towing is when 'properly equipped'. The tow package alone doesn't get you 'properly equipped'. You will need some kind of trailer brakes control, either add an approved electric brake controller, or a trailer with surge brakes.
