Maverick in at my local dealership, compared to my ranger

*Four hours later* Still waiting for my service check up and oil change to be finished...

To get a first thing appointment takes me about a week here. Once I took my own Mobile 1 full synthetic oil. They were only going to charge me $12 plus a filter but the idiots put their 50-50 mix in but caught it as they were about to check me out so they had to redo it with my oil and they didn't charge me. I only had to wait an hour.
But I see the same thing down here with the lines. For service other than oil and battery, you MUST make an appointment but they don't necessarily get to you at that very moment because they usually have to finish up the vehicle from the night before. (I always shoot for the 1st AM appt.)
Used to be small town around here and walk in and out of anywhere but now with everybody moving down here at the rate of 8000 people a week into the Central Florida area, no more.
I think I'm selling my house at the beginning of next year and moving to a small town where people are still nice. I went for a half week get-away outside Gainesville back in June and it was like stepping back in time when Floridians used to be nice because you either were local or the snowbirds assimilated to life down here instead of bringing their trashy ways down here. It was almost like stepping in time like the movie Pleasantville. I know, I know, TMI. But it's lonely at the top of my household when nobody's home.

Wow, that makes sense about the vehicles from the night before. Must of been that line before me that weren't 7am "appointments". People be multiplying everywhere honestly, eventually we won't be able to evade it but for the next few decades perhaps we can I wonder what rural life is like, I mention this all the time in threads... Maybe because I daydream about it so often. So forgive me for mentioning it again.

I still don't trust the basic run of the mill techs at any dealership except luxury ones... but after 36k runs up I will be doing my own oil changes. Maybe a service check up around 50k and 70k but that's about it.

You have A LOT more patience than me, no way I'd wait 6 hours for an oil change. That's like going for a DR's visit. lol I always try to make mine for the first one in the morning and have been lucky as I'm in/out in about an hour for an oil change and tire rotation.

The Maverick isn't anything I'd be interested in but like I've said in previous posts I think there's a big niche for these. These will be great for the person who is semi retired and has a small handyman (or any trade) business, the weekend warrior who needs a truck once in a while to haul some yard stuff or pick up some supplies. Where I see these being a big hit are companies like Orkin and other pest control companies who just need a bed for a water tank and a few supplies. Also auto parts companies for running auto parts to dealers. If Ford can actually get their production running right without botching another launch these are going to sell very well.

Fortunately but unfortunately I did get the earliest AM appointment. I think they were just back logged from last night hehe. Yeah it should of been way quicker but once a year, not too bad. At least until warranty is gone for me.

I think like you mentioned there are lots of people who will want a 20k pickup. Lots of uses. Agreed it will sell very, very well. What’s not to love about the 40mpg?

RP posted a good graphic somewhere showing the differences, an f150 is almost 15-20% larger side by side in size to a Ranger. Maverick inches out a little bit smaller than the Ranger. IMO the Ranger is quite small, whenever I am next to a normal f150 I feel like the little brother.

This is a cool little pickup though. Especially fits your needs of beer cans and a shovel and when you do want to hit a trail you can as long as its paved well!

True compared to an older f150. I think the newer ones also got larger along with small trucks moving to “mid size” now.

Right now the Hyundai Santa Cruz is the hottest selling vehicle in the US.

I think that will change once the Maverick gets out.

I'm itching to drive a 2.0 AWD version.

The Ford inventory site shows a few coming in locally that are equipped like I would be interested in except for ALL of them having a sunroof, which I certainly don't want to pay $800 for since I'll probably never use it.

We want to buy a travel trailer & travel around the continent, so need the pulling power. Now, if I was looking for a car/suv I would certainly be looking at this.

I wonder how much it'll cut into the commerical sales for Ranger; I've just recently started seeing the single cab long bed commerical versions in my area (Advance Autos in my area just got two per store).

My guess it will cut into them some with the better mpg and roomier interior. At least the sales will still go to Ford though and not another manufacturer like Toyota.

The steering wheel is identical to my wife's 2020 Escape and the Radio and HVAC controls are very similar also. Still not too sure about the front end yet. I still hold out till I see one in person.

The front end is a little meh but, it is inoffensive. It is not aggressive nor is it cutesy. Very much middle of the road to appease to the suburbanite CUV shopper market that they are trying to tap into.
I was super close to ordering a Maverick. It would do everything I needed it to do during the week and 95% of what I think I would do on the weekends. I ended up with the Ranger because of my impatience and the 5% use case that I might do. I think I needed real 4WD and low range. Time will tell if that was a waste. I survived this long with 2WD vehicles and my Subaru Crosstrek did everything I asked it to do with its AWD.
At least I have resale valve with the FX4 4x4. ?‍

Got to agree with Dave @AzScorpion for the target market these things are going to be everywhere. The price point to mileage delivered will make them mighty enticing. If your a “green” proponent this is screaming “buy me”.

For me, meh, it’s ok but most definitely keeping Natasha over here. ?
