Hi all,

I have FP tune and messing with the gauges. Which lambda do I use? ACT_lambda_b1 or DSD_lambda for the air fuel mixture measure?

Warm regards,
Brandon

Having the Livernois tune I can access the same but I do not remember right off. My question is why are you wanting to monitor the Lambda?

Testing an E25 mix. Wanting to see measures and making sure I am using the correct measure before and after. Could you double check whenever you can to confirm which lambda I should use please :3

And everyone, before you comment about E85 and ethanol. I have read all the past threads and do not want this thread to become a basis for arguing about it like the others. I have read Phil’s warning and both sides of the argument and hopped over to other car/vehicle forums to read more. I want to test things, I stress test my ranger all the time. Just want to know my lambda question if anyone knows by chance, please :)

I've been running E20 for about 10k miles. Would be interested to see how you do with E25

Hey Garrett,

Appreciate you chiming in as I gained some information from your past posts. Will let you know what my average lambdas are at idle, cruise and WOT. Once I confirm I am using the correct measure. So far, it feels pretty good. Going to run a few tanks more before I give an opinion. Do you have an E20 pump near you?

I am mixing E85 3.5 gallons and 91 oct 14.5 gallons for first two tanks(92.8 octane/E25), then going to wait till 20% fuel tank and refill 2.5 gallons of E85 and the rest 91 oct. This should diminish my ethanol to E20 or lower by 5-7 fuel ups. After 5-10 fill ups, I will run the tank pretty dry and then juice it back with the 3.5 E85/ 14.5 91 oct mix. Does that sound okay?

When I get home later I will look into it more but I must ask, is the fuel out where you live ethanol free or contain up to 10%?

Smart thinking Brandon, good to keep an eye on things when experimenting.
Thank you Doug. I didn't quite see AFR/lambda measures when people were debating E85 and I certainly do not want to go full E85, just E25/ 93 octane for CA. Just testing the waters a little.

Thank you Chris. It contains 10% ethanol. But I used a E85 mix calculator and it has the ethanol % as a measure added for the E85 and regular gasoline fill ins. I was also worried about mixing 10% ethanol gasoline with E85 and not getting the proper ratios.

You are not going to get any useful information from monitoring lambda because the value coming off the O2 sensor is going to be corrected. You need the amount(%) of correction off the commanded value. Then you can calculate the ethanol blend based off that.

Hi Al,

I am really new to tuning and trucks in general. When you say I need the % of correction off the commanded value, is that from the data logs? And where do I go with calculating this ethanol blend in relation to my AFR if my lambdas are not correct? Is there an article you can show me to widen my understanding so I don't waste your time with you explaining it?

Last question, how come my lambdas did change significantly after using the blend? Is the change in the corrected value off the O2 sensor just moot because I am using a blend? Also, O2 sensor is the same area as the ODB2 reading off the tuner box? Sorry if these questions sound really dumb, I just don't know much of the technical jargon.

Thank you,
Brandon

If I can get an accurate lambda reading. Man I have found some pure gold. Interestingly enough, it looks like lambda values are around .65-.75 on a stock ecoboost f150 for WOT. Passing it is around .7-.75. Very interesting. Also if you guys care enough, we can put the debate of whether or not 88 vs 93 octane makes a difference in a stock ecoboost with government ran dyno and data logs to rest... Lol, what a hidden gem I found in this rabbit hole search for good WOT lambda values.

Just drove for an hour. ACT_Lambda_BD1 seems to be the right one...? Someone correct me if I am wrong though, it could very well be the computer lambda telling it to go there not actual reading? Kind of getting a little confused with all the terminology in this AFR world. However, WOT I am at .7-.75 lambda, sometimes .68 if I hold it down for more than 8 seconds. Idle I am sitting at 1 essentially. Constant speed I am at .94-1. Everything is checking out. Before the E25 blend, I was at .75-.85 lambda, idle at 1-1.2 lambda and constant speed was .94-1, the same.

Going to keep testing it out with more tanks. If anything, like I thought it indicates previously I was running a little lean. However, most forums and videos tend to mention .75-.85 is the sweet spot for max power. Now I want to research, is slightly more rich or slightly more lean good for our engine setup. If my tune was set up for 91 by FP tune, I imagine they set the AFR and tunes related to be quite perfect. If the case my truck runs a better/safer AFR/lambda at 91 I will use that instead. Going to run a few more tanks to see more data.

Will retest again when I switch to Livernois tune, will mention this to the tuners and see what they think about me achieving 93 this way, how it looks in the data logs.

@Sulli @Bluebeastsrt Any opinions on my thoughts? Any lambda logs for you guys on the E85 blend and the full E85 for you Sulli? Feel free to PM me if you don't want to get into a conversation on threads about it. Would appreciate your guys knowledge though as I learned a lot from your previous comments.
