Holes in your Ranger rocker panels?

Phil traded in the Ranger and got a Dodge 1500 crew cab.

Appreciate it, guys, I had missed his post. Still, I'd like to find someone at Ford's Department of Ranger Rocker Panels and get an answer on the missing or deliberately deleted plugs.


Mebbe we should all go on the RAM 1500 forum (your'e showing your age, RP, unless Phil bought an '08 or older one) and harass him!

I plan to take mine in for its first 5000mi Works Package. They are pretty chummy folks, right up to the dealer principal. I'll see if I can come up with a reason or a contact.

2 inner plugs and all outer plugs missing from factory

• 6 bed tie down vs 4
• Removable covers over the ties downs on the Ford drop-in liner
• Front passenger side floor mat anchors

• Seam sealer on the doors
• Engine cover on Lariats
• $10K off MSRP if bought on black friday 2019

Anything else? I'm sure we've only spotted a fraction of the skimping that's going on.

I can't tell if there is some sort of coating on the inside of the rocker panel, although I would suspect (hope) there is.

It's 2021, there isn't any raw steel.

I think the also did away with the embossed Ranger in the leather seats. 2019 had them.

• Wiper de-icer deleted (curiously available on the Maverick)
• Pickup box delete option deleted.
• No plugs in the center tie-down hooks in the spray-in bedliner, either

Found these in the 2019 vs 2021 Ranger cost cutting moves for Ford thread.

Someone should probably make a post with a big list. It's a little disappointing, Ford should be adding features not taking them away.

I started a thread over on Blue Oval Forums on their Ranger page. Pretty much the same as here; no one really knows why the plugs were discontinued.
I know the dealers have a directory of anyone that matters in Ford's chain of command; I'll see if I can get an email contact when I go in on 8/9/21.
I think/hope I'm overthinking this. My 2009 Mariner has holes and slots all over underneath and no sign of anything except minor surface oxidation.
I alway get the under spray at auto car washes; must be helping.

Do all 5G Rangers have these gaping holes on the rocker panels? Hard to believe these are the best design alternative when considering all factors.

Many contaminants and water are invited to enter here on my 2021... So weird, when compared to EVERY other vehicle I have seen or owned.

Would love to hear an explanation for these - that makes them seem right not wrong.

my experience is they are pre set up to install running boards.
