Something I thought I would never say....

"I bought my truck a new laptop yesterday."

My old one is acting up and wouldn't connect to the Ranger, so I bought it a new one. Old one back where it was, and works great for it's use, now I have one just for the Ranger, LMAO.
So I’m not the only one:handsinair:

I have a new laptop coming tomorrow for the same reason. I justified it because it will also allow me to work while I travel. But it was mostly for the Ranger. I've been thinking about finding a way to mount it inside the cab for navigation too, but that's another day's problem...

Added the Start-X remote start. Also got 2 fobs cut and programmed and a door key cut.
Good they worked. I just ordered the start-x too. The phone remote start is nice, but having it on a fob will be nice (and bonus is not having to replace the existing).

I've been searching for a cheaper older laptop. Some midrange work laptop from circa 2013 is all i want, but struggling to find something for what i think it's worth (and paying more than $125 for an ivy bridge i5 laptop feels like highway robbery). Maybe i'll just sort passthrough and do it on a macbook.

There is a video on YouTube that explains it, but I still couldn’t get it to work.

Getting ready for the glamping trip down to Tierra del Fuego....

Also kicked a sawhorse over and put a scratch down low on the driver's door. Good thing it's a truck for doing truck shit and not just a pavement princess. Can join the rock dent in the hood and pinstriping down the sides.

I have a mint condition Toughbook CF-30 that I put a solid state drive in put up to eventually go in my Ranger. I'm going to get a RAM floor mount system like our patrol cars use. Yes they do offer a 19+ Ranger base plate for our passenger seat bolts.

Ah nice. I just ended up spending $100 on a Dell E7420/70? Skylake i5, 8gb ram. might need a new battery, but even if battery life is half an hour that's good enough for me. This will be just in the car for a few hours probably its entire life, so don't need to go too wild.

Ok...I don't understand this.
Why do you guys need a computer in the truck?
I know I'm missing something incredibly obvious, but I'm just not getting it.
Thanks for indulging me.

What brand baseplate and wiring harness did you go with? Looking to do the same to our Ranger soon.

Brian
The baseplate with tow bar and accessory package all came from Blue Ox. Part numbers BX2679, BX7420, BX 88308. The supplemental brake system is made by Demco and it’s called the Stay-In-Play Duo. Also had a charge line with circuit breaker added which was a shop item but I don’t have a name or part number on that. I hope this info helps you.

First and foremost, I don't NEED a computer in my truck. ha!

Reasons I would like a laptop in my truck:
  1. Forscan. This isn't a 'mount in the truck' operation, but I need it to connect to my truck.
  2. Navigation. Phones and tablets are great, but a trackpad and keyboard would make my life easier while trying to find things, plus an awesome 13" screen to view maps and such.
  3. Work. I don't need the laptop mounted in the truck for this, but working from campsites (with service or heading to a local coffee shop with wifi) means I can travel and work.
